The Old Folks Home

Diva, we're friends because you can't whack us with your cane when you get upset.

getaclue, I don't have a cane but I do have a riding crop.

I used to walk around the neighborhood trying to lose post baby pounds -One neighbor used to let his chow loose and it would come after me.. The first time he charged me I asked the man very nicely if he could please control his dog. His answer "Stop walking the streets, lady " Then I saw red - no more nice nice. I was scared too death but, not going to change my routine. Another day the dog came running out barking and snarling - I could see people at their windows watching. I just stood there with the upraised crop fuming, that no one would bother to help me. We confronted each other for quite some time . Then someone in the house called the dog back and he took off.

Later on I noticed the dog roamed the neighborhood. My son said when the kids got off the bus, he didn't bother anyone. Then I found out he ignored me when I was anywhere else. I figured that guy, used to sic the dog on me.

Fast forward - the bum was cheating on his wife, they got divorced and he had the dog (HER DOG the chow) put down. The little girl in the family was devastated. Neighbors later told me the wife had the dog to protect her from her %^#%$* husband. Life really gets complicated.

PS I've never hit anything with the crop, though I did try it out on myself once - OW!! How come jockeys are allowed to whip the horses.?

I had some close friends growing up and I did have one close friend when my kids were little. We both had young children and were in the same unit in the Army. Sadly, when I was going through my divorce, her husband (good friends with my ex) talked her into getting involved. That was the end of our friendship. I am still friends with a couple of people from when I was young but I very rarely see them. It was great to become friends with SCG. We are both quirky, both have a sense of humor and the friendship can withstand getting on each other's nerves at times. What more could you ask for?

I've never done turkeys, but I have had quite a number of broody chickens. I have:

Removed the broody and her eggs to a separate pen where she could brood without being disturbed by other birds.

Marked the eggs that she was setting on, and removed any eggs without markings as they are added daily.

Removed pipped eggs/chicks as they are discovered; I had an uber-broody Silkie that produced chicks for something like 3 months before I finally let her keep a couple just to get her up and moving again.
Thanks Bunnylady.I will check her nest out this evening when we collect eggs and see how many are there and mark the bottom ones.
