The Old Folks Home

My wife thought it was weird her gramma had a second kitchen. So did mine but I never thought about it, never saw her use it, just thought it was there becaus she moved her kitchen maybe. Then I was reading one of them ' Reminisce' magazines that back in the 'olden days' people usually had two kitchens, one off away from the living area for cooking and canning during the hot summer months partly because they used the old woodfired cookstoves back then. It all makes sense now lol.

Pressure canners too are pretty dangerous.... But all that heat generated and the space needed for food prep just calls for a summer kitchen you can have a big soup pot in there as well as the big sink to wash said items... I want to try my hand at tamales... too... I think they would be an awesome thing to can and put up in the pantry.

The space I have spotted for the summer kitchen will be on the back side of the kitchen in the house... Which is under the only tree that shades anything on my house. Walk through from the house... I also want to build a deck around the house... But there is power and water and propane access along the kitchen wall.

Oh I can dream on....

Found my last jelly jar of strawberry vanilla bean ice cream topping syrup (jam that didn't congeal, what a lovely surprise as ice cream topper) and added to a large thing of homemade vanilla bean ice cream.

Heaven.
Sounds like heaven!

Beer can I never heard of anyone having a second kitchen. I have heard that some had their kitchen separate from the house in the old days.

SCG I am so PROUD of you, homemade ice cream topper, home made ice cream - and you thought of eating it on your own. No pressure from me. That's my girl

My work is finished here.

The kitchen in the main part of the house back then also had a wood fired cookstove and helped heat the home back in the olden days. Diva, do you remember anyone having two kitchens for that reason back then?
