The Old Folks Home

How do you get rid of a hundred+ wasps? Burning won't work cause I don't want to lose my backhoe. Raid wasp spray is just pissing them off. I want to use the hoe NOW! not tomorrow. Took the tarp off and got stung several times before I knew what happened. Maybe I'll just take the kids fishing...

A helper holding a smoker and a flashlight in a bee suit. You hold the spray can and spray directly into the nest. Lowes sells them in two packs.

Actually I've had great results from spraying at night * and using Spic And Span, all surface cleaner. Soapy stuff suffocates them. A fire extinguisher will work but, expensive to replace. Aerosol things (not necessary hair spray) come out freezing cold that GETS them good. I don't care for the torch method, it destroys much more than the nest.

* of course our nights can get down to 50's so yellow jackets are not very active. I have found Spic and Span to have such a quick knockdown/kill on insects of every persuasion, I am afraid of what it can do to people using it to houseclean.

Chicken Canoe regular roundup and even extended control round up never did much for me. But Roundup for poison ivy and tough brush killer, is my go to product when I can afford the quart concentrate ($ 30 . with tax at Wally) none of the other places sell it here. I call it my napalm.

The trouble with it -despite the label saying how fast the plants will show affect is a LIE. I always think it didn't work and then after a week, sometimes two, I will realize the plants are gone, it even kills the savage Buckthorn shrubs and smaller trees. It kills those murderous wild raspberry vines, etc. etc. The problem is dead shrubs and trees do not melt. They are still standing and I don't have a chain saw. It's looks like the remains of a ghost forest.

IF I could afford it, I would do the perimeter of my yard where Buckhorn has killed off the good shrubbery I once had. But again in testing - if you compare it to stuff that works fast, you will think it's worthless. If you have the patience to wait - you will realize it does a spectacular job. I have had no luck with Spectracide products, which I used often because of hefty coupons for it. Their "weed and grass killer," gets the weeds, leaves the grass. Their "weed killer FOR lawns." does kill the grass but NOT the weeds. I often wonder if they are mixing them up at the factory.

That's not what we call a "wasp" nest in Texas....we call it a hornet nest...and I woulfd go up to it in the middle of the night....knock it clear with a baseballl bat
..then come back in a half hour(just to make sure everybody's home..and chunk it on a fire.....

My Hubby's weapon of choice for yellow jackets and other stinging insects is starter fluid As diva said, aerosol sprays come out very cold: the ether of starting fluid knocks them right out of the air.

Dude, maybe all of your yellowhammers heard that they weren't entirely safe in your neck of the woods, and moved east. I see them all the time around here.
