Lead poisoning?

good aim and a .22 magnum. Works everytime
One of the reasons I love this thread is that we can talk about stuff like this and no one gets a flame. A person mentioned solutions to a hawk problem on another thread and all kinds of dire posts followed.

Gotta love the Old folks!

I think we all understand that we're not doing this for fun, and that we've given the fox ample opportunities to "move along."

They didn't heed that advice, and therefore will pay the price.

I have to admit, with the federal law protecting hawks, I'd more than likely not chime in on that thread, but since I put up fishing line across the run in a crazy pattern, the hawks killing chickens have stopped. I usually only lose chickens to hawks in fall, though. Wish the hawks would come take care of my rats instead.

Ugg, don't have either one.

It has been over 50 years since I shot a gun. With the rather close houses, too risky for me.

Then if I were you I'd try the human urine method. Pee outside, or if the houses are too close, pee in a cup and transport outside. Cover the perimeter with urine.

You can try a Have-A-Heart trap, but I wouldn't think that a fox would fall for that, and you'd likely get other critters you don't want (skunks).

Lastly, animal control might be able to put up traps for you, but I hate calling them. I don't like them nosing around in my business.

Since I live in town my predators are mostly cats. There is too much cover here for the hawks and they do not fly over. I do live on the Pacific Flyway, so I got to see Canadian Honkers fly low over my house yesterday morning. Of course I thought "I hope they don't poop and make my Chooks sick".

If I ever get to move to the Country I will need all the advice I can get to keep the predators out.

People on the coast and the mountains here have Mountain Lion attacks and those are protected too!

I am a giant failure.

I put the game cam out so I could watch the rat's demise in all its glory.

When I went out this morning there was no rat. So I dragged the game cam in.

There were multiple photos of the rat bypassing the glue traps... jumping over them, walking around them. The rat sniffed the bucket but said no, thank you.

And then I got to this picture and freaked:

Oh and then I managed to get my hand caught in the glue traps and then as I was trying to get my hand out of the glue trap, got the glue traps stuck together. Now they're useless.
It takes a couple of days for the rats to accept something that is new. They are very cautios. They will go after the bait on the can tonight or tomorrow.

One problem may be the bucket. Big rats can get out of bucket. Garbage cans are used for big rats. You might need to make a bigger rat trap.

There is a lot of wildlife here. I trapped a bobcat in one of my Have-A-Heart traps about 2 years ago.

Funny story... I was on call the night I put the trap out and I was called at least twice an hour and was therefore up most of the night with a couple of mini-naps. I was beyond exhausted. I had to get up in the morning to go back to regular work, and after I took a shower and got dressed I lurched my way to the living room and looked out the front windows and noticed my trap was sprung and something was in it.

At this point BF was also up, and was wearing the emperors new clothes.

An aside: the day before I had caught the neighbor's cat in my trap while I was at work.

I went out the front door, cautiously up to the trap, and saw it was a really angry cat.

The trap was shaking.

I'm mentally a wet noodle, and start talking to the really angry, large, housecat. Put my hands in the trap to open it up, and this giant cat flies out and runs across the lawn. I reset the trap and lurch back into the house.

BF is standing there, had been watching me out the window, paralyzed in fear. He looks at me and says "You do know that was a bobcat, right?"

And so I argued with him that it was just a large housecat, until google solved our argument.

The joys of living in the country. He hasn't let me live that one down and likes to tell it from his perspective... that he couldn't stop watching but couldn't go outside to warn me because of his attire... or lack thereof.

I am glad that you did not get hurt!

I saw a bunch of wild felines at a Zoo once. It is amazing how much some of them look like big house cats!
