The Old Folks Home

I'm a sensitive sort.

Those squash that I had in the picture, I cut up like fried potatoes and then I cook them in a pan just like fried potatoes. They are good that way and I use a very little bit of olive oil in cooking them. I have some butternut squash that went crazy and one of the plants is climbing up my Appletree and I have a squash hanging up there, I'll have to post a picture when it gets big enough for you to see, it's pretty funny. Love this time of the year! Except for the heat that is. Ha ha

I made strawberry jalapeño jam today. I made 3 pints and 7 1/2 pints and I put one of the pints in the fridge and I'm going to try it out later.I may have to put a caution label on the jars. Eat at your own risk.

Can you post the recipe for the jam?

It sounds amazing!

Diva, I love ice cream, so you're going to have to lay off it a few months to let the supplies increase enough so I can get my tonsils out.

Got 6 roosters processed today with 3 left in the coop. At least one, if not two, will survive and be the boys to our flock. I'm really liking the way the jubilee orp is looking, although he's a giant weenie. My leghorn roo, although not great for my meat program, is really friendly and absolutely adorable. And then there's one completely pathetic legbar roo left from the first hatch I did this year - his comb is shriveled, he doesn't crow and he's skinny. He's too pathetic to be food. I'm hoping with 6 roosters down he begins to liven up.

Chicka - with exception of the turkeys, which I'm still not sure about, everything I hatched from you were girls.
I have a trio of buckeyes still if you want some more eggs in the spring for a cockerel just let me know and I will send you some. Also I have some new turkey breeds if your interested. Chocolate and Narragansett. I am planning on some cross breeding for a sure bet on sexlink turkey.

Actually I take that back. After losing 6 roosters yesterday this one is acting more roo-ish but still looks like a hen. So jury is still out.

Might do a trade this spring if you're interested.

sssharon I will have to pass on the white squash (not a huge squash fan) but the tomatoes and the zucchini look awesome!
Alaskan we have a few more months until the rut although I was surprised to see two bulls just hanging out together. I think they are both still young, maybe three or four years?
I am torn between the flowers at the end of the log and the darker reflection picture as my favorite of the landscape pictures.
Thank you for all the very nice compliments!
