The Old Folks Home

It's the same up here in summer, for the most part, too. I don't do well in air conditioning nor at night with the windows open because our temps get so low even in the summer. I keep the heated mattress pad on the bed year round... it's at least dual zones. Want to get grill marks on your butt? Come visit on my side. In winter I also have the heated blanket. It's a nice panini press.

Today BF's in shorts. I wore a light jacket during the day and now that the sun's down... the down jacket is back for chores. But I tell you... my thermostat is changing. I went to Arizona two years ago in April and thought I was going to die. And it was in the 70s and 80s most of the time. It was still snowing here, so my body was somewhat "used" to the cold. It's like my thermostat is half pregnant.

In Woodland California, it is 90 today, 93 tomorrow and 94 on Monday. Yes, I am wearing shorts and the AC is on!

Is that area hospitable in July? Do you have two suns like Tatooine?

Here's my yearly averages... for perspective. Red is our record high.

Yes! it is hot in July but not as hot as where Mahonri lives:

See why we do not worry about big combs on chickens here and why Penedesencas are perfect for us!

I have to provide shade and misters for my sissy chickens--Marans will die from the heat here.

SCG - Now you're just braggin'!

A little bit, yeah... this is my time of year to shine. You guys get to laugh at me in crotch-deep snow for the last 5 months... and now... it's a lovely 63 out. Well... not anymore, the sun went down...

You need naked necks. And just seeing that forecast makes me feel like popcorn.

Sorry, guys, it's been a long day.....
I am sorry I stepped on toes. I did not mean to at all. 7 hours seems to be a bit much for ANY situation. The tornado had not JUST happened, the initial clean up was done and the town was on lock down at night. No one was allowed in because so many people were not there to watch their belongings. It was logical there be LEO there to maintain that. But surely somewhere in those 7 hours there would have been a chance for one officer to go the 10 miles to check out what the dispatcher said would be done. The nearby towns were being very supportive with volunteer help, food and other things. And yes, even donuts were mentioned a lot as part of the donated foods as well as meals for residents and volunteers.

I live here, I know the damage a twister can cause and tomorrow it might be my house that is gone in seconds. The town to the south was severely damaged one summer the next summer the town to the north had lots of loss also.

I am told "if I can't take care of it - don't have it. Guess I need to do better following that advice..

Again, sorry.

And if you're following my rat-saga...

Tonights episode title: Over-reaction.

Their mission, should they choose to accept: Navigate a 10x10 area booby trapped with: 4 snap traps, 2 glue traps (which came apart remarkably easy after being in the refrigerator all day), 2 Have-A-Hearts and a bucket water trap. Oh, and I almost forgot... a coffee drink a la Barista Ron.

And the game cam for good measure and monitoring purposes.

We unfortunately don't own a reliable bb gun nor night vision goggles. If tonight fails I believe we'll be adding to our gun cabinet.

Everything but the kitchen sink!

Good luck, happy hunting.

chickies-duckies-- as a kid I beleived kansas was not the place to be between THe wizard of Oz, and my mother loosing a best friend in Worcester, I have a fear of tornatos. THey don't happen in Maine at all, and I take some releif in knowing I am not directly in the Worcester area. Sorry I'll head for Maine for my weather . . .

SCG--- I wor a wool sweater every evening even in the summer. I have a beautiful collection stored in a cedar chest. Too many hot nights here to dig them out. Maybe someday I can fit in them again and at least wear them in the winter months. I have dozens . . . .

Bunny ladie-- sorry your neighbor lost 2 minis-- heart wrenching, and the continuous worry for the thrid. I do wonder if minis are more sensitive. I have wild cherry here and knock on wood . . . . .
