The Old Folks Home

Today I had Baskin Robbins pralines and cream and since activity on BYC is slowing down think I will also eat the BR Mocha almond fudge right NOW!! Thanks for asking.

Both of those sound nummers. I've got a bunch of BR coupons for free pints (received for donating blood) and I thought that getting vanilla would be rather uninspiring. But the pralines and cream sounds SO good! Thanks for the idea! Will go get that and some mint chip.

As much as I love coupons and free stuff - donating blood

I am told I have tiny veins which is not great like having a tiny waist would be. I don't think you can donate blood if you have had cancer. I had skin cancer.

PS their Pistachio almond is very good - I don't like their Rocky road, the chocolate ice cream is very, very dark.

All the farriers I know charge more for draft horses and minis. Drafter for more labor and heavier hoof and minis because they've got to get down on their knees.

I have always paid more for my Girl I expect it. And I expected him to charge closer to 80 when we started our "relationship" business wise. I was stunned when he charged just about the same as all the other Farriers in San Diego. which was 60.... This time I asked him to set the price. and was happy for it.

WRT minis yep he was saying it killed his back... and hes a little guy about five foot five... I told him about the platforms they are making now for minis to climb up on and be safe and yet be at a comfortable and Adjustable height for the farrier to work... He said he hadn't seen them but his dad used to have em stand on a bale of hay for trims.... bleeping brilliant

But I have also seen metal ones that have sides... Me I would build this with the top large enough to turn the horse around and with a rail on the side incase someone gets fidgety... No falling off the trimming platform... LOL.

Yes, Ron, that's wonderful news! Keep us posted on her recovery. I know you must be relieved.

A dear friend (Apdeb from CT) came to my house yesterday and helped me choose the best Silver Campine pullets from my flock. We pulled 19 from the temporary grow out coop and moved them to the breeder coop. There are at least 20 more that didn't make the first cut. They will remain in the grow out coop until they mature to see what they do, but I will sell some if anyone wants them.

We also "ranked" them into three groups by quality. She will be taking the number two group and a top pick from the number one group to my breeding partner in Massachusetts along with three nice cockerels. I'm also sending her two bantams, seven Ameraucana chicks, a young Campine cockerel, and maybe one more surprise.

After that, we had lunch and did some sightseeing, came back to veg on the couch a while, then went out for supper. It was great fun to have a chicken friend actually here to talk to. Don't get me wrong, I love all my cyber-chicken friends, but you all can't walk out to the coops with me. There are no knowlegeable large fowl chicken people around me at all. Oh, there are people who thing they know chickens, but they are not show/standard people. Well.......there's one..........but he's just strange.

Wisher, that sounds awesome. You can understand why rabbit breeders' phone calls last at least 30 minutes, can't you? I remember commenting to one that we all go home from a show hoarse from "talking rabbit" all day, and she said,
"That's because nobody else wants to hear it!"

I've thought about building something like that platform for my minis. I have a farrier that trms my QH's on a regular basis, but I do the minis myself. I started doing Betsy's feet when I got her - she was skittish about everything, but particularly men. She has donkey feet, which are surprisingly hard, BTW. When Syd came to live with us, she was only a few months old, and had already had enough bad experiences with farriers to be terrified - so it just made sense to do her myself. Blondie is good for everything, but she just got added to the list. It's a long way down to where they keep their feet - doing all three at one time is rough! I've heard about farriers that specialize in minis; I can't imagine how you could do that all day.

I pay $70 to get the "bigs" feet done, and an very pleased with the results. Sunny's feet were terrible when I got her, and now they are nearly normal - thin soled, but so much better than they were. I don't know what I'd do if this guy quit.

Morning everyone!
Ron, so happy for you and your wife! Now, I hope you and she are able to really enjoy the rest of summer (and do a bit of celebrating when she is totally healed up).

Perchie and Bunny - I love reading your horse stories. I miss mine sometimes. Too old and really too far north to even think of starting with them again but sometimes I daydream what it would be like to look out and see a horse or two our in our field, sigh. They truly are such amazing animals and the minis just make me laugh out loud.

Been super busy this week with the roofers and the new windows being put in. They did a great job! The roof was completely done in one day and it only took them a day and a half to finish the windows even with having to build new sills and trim. The best part was the guys were all super friendly and nice. Not a foul word out of any of them and even had fun with our yappy little dog. DH is outside all ready this morning putting the final touches on the new 12 foot post he attached to porch for the satellite dishes to go up on. He was determined they were not going back on the roof and punching holes in his new steel roofing! The satellite tech should be here this pm to put them back up and do the alignment. Oh, did I tell you when I called to set up the appointment with the provider I kind of threatened to switch companies because then I could get new equipment, install etc. done for free they gave us all kinds of free stuff to stay with them including the no cost service call and cut our bill in half for an entire year????

Now if those loggers would just show up so we can pay off the loans for all the work on the house we will be in good shape!

If there is enough money left over from the loggers, I wonder how I could talk DH into building me a little barn so I could get some mini goats???? Hmmm, oh sweetie!!!!
