The Old Folks Home

So... Walking home from church this morning.. Eldest son is in front of me... And I notice a tiny hole in the left back pocket of the pants.... And then I notice a small spot of lime colored paint on the right back pocket flap and it hits me, so I shout "you are wearing MY pants!!!! WHY are you wearing MY pants????

Son smirked and said he had nothing to with it... They had been in his pile of clean clothes, he put them into his drawer, they were now his.

I don't care for the word "retired." especially since my family never thinks I worked hard at all during my earlier lifetime. I prefer to say "out to pasture." sounds peaceful.

Or "out smelling roses." So much better than "pushing up daisies." Ya think?

Got a quilt top done today, just need to do some housekeeping by stitching the flower borders down

Also - my dad asked me for a quilt a couple months ago. I thought my sister had made him something similar to what he was asking for, and I found out she had almost finished the quilt top, then stopped because she didn't like it (that happens a lot - the one above I've been working on a bit and then putting aside for months). We decided she was going to send it to me and I'd finish it and then we'd gift it to dad as a present from both of his girls.
... we know how that story turned out.
I have the quilt top now, and could probably finish the top in a couple hours so that I could quilt and bind it. But... anyone have any great ideas about what I should do with it once I complete it?

I'm an independent contractor (freelancer) and, too, have suffered a lack of respect for my work from family. But, truth be told, in hopping off the govt. hamster wheel I actually was working harder and in more demand for my services and had a jammed calendar of assignments (and made more money). However, I definitely enjoy the aspect of being able to call my own vacations without having to requisition it. Anyway, one day I asked my mother *why* she was calling me about a repair issue at her house when my sister lived so much closer (like 700 miles closer). The answer? "Oh. Well, your sister has a REAL job."

Sheesh.....

Anyway, I am slowly hanging up the career. It used to be I was working 15-20 days a week, then a move and jobs fell to about 8 jobs a month, then with this latest move it's maaaaaybe 3 times a month, but often a calendar you could shoot a cannon through with nothing.... which is great as the body is starting to strongly hint that after 30 years it's time to relinquish the grip. And after three decades I have lost a lot of interest in the career, too. It's just really hard and kind of scary to give it all up even though I have more than enough other things to keep me busy. I'm sort of thinking next year on my birthday might be the target date to do it.
