Ron has the recipe answer for everything! :hugs

My sewing machine's been acting up. There is one certified Singer repair shop in the state and it's 90 minutes south of me. However, there's a guy with a sign "Sewing Machine Repair" about 15 minutes from me. I decided to take the risk and go there. When I walked in I was really unsure of my decision. The repair man was ancient, the shop was ancient and I felt like I had gone back in time to 1970. The shop was packed with old machines, old parts, notions and dust. The owner went to work immediately on my machine and within an hour had determined that it was likely not my machine, but was my walking foot causing the issue, and unfortunately he couldn't fix it. I spent the hour prowling around his shop looking at all the old machines and parts (and really enjoying it). I ended up purchasing a foot for my 1892 Singer treadle and if I come back with the part I need another of, he'll root through his jars and help me find what I need. What a phenomenal find! I've been trying to get parts for what I need off ebay, but many sellers don't know exactly what they're listing so often you buy something that doesn't fit. He was impressed with my knowledge of treadles and insisted at the end that because he couldn't fix my machine, he wouldn't charge me. I tried to give him 20$ for his time, but he refused. I am so glad I went in and am glad that places like this still exist. I hope the girls lay some eggs this week so when I go back for parts I can at least give him a dozen eggs.

Hard to find shops and shop owners like that anymore. Grats on a great find! However, I had to say "ouch" when you said "The repair man was ancient, the shop was ancient and I felt like I had gone back in time to 1970." I was in high school then :old Guess that pretty much makes me pre-historic :hit

I thought the exact same thing when I read "ancient" and then "back in time to 1970"  :old   Young whippersnapper!  :plbb
Really! Haha. I was already married & with a baby by 1970 but, I was still young-just 20:) I was in the vintage/antique business up til 2014. We couldn't give away treadle sewing machines. I have 2 of them. Unfortunately the one with the beautifully carved drawers is in bad shape. I sort of inherited it. I'm hoping Michael can restore it for me. My late husband made a huge quilt from men's trousers on my Singer treadle. What is neat is now the quilt and fabrics are vintage. All it needs is to be bound off around the edges. I think it would be worth a small fortune but I don't plan to sell it.

deb, that was mean of them to take that horse away. Well, those photos sure show how into horses you were. Wish I had more of me on them. I really did ride a lot, just no photos! :/ Cute girl!

I think I've shared this here before, myself and my baby in 75. In one of those fun booths!
