One of my cousins recently posted something on FaceBook regarding this fellow that does bone, stone, and antler type carvings. I got to looking at his page, and by golly he also collects, and restores old fountain pens. I contacted him, and without further ado, I ordered a pen. It was out of character for me to do an impulse buy, spend that much on something frivolous, and not even consult with Dh before ordering it, but I did. I am now the owner of a black, circa 1950 Esterbrook fountain pen, with a fine nib, and spare nib. Dh fussed a little now, and again when he found out, but didn't really put up too much of a fuss. Like I said, I don't normally do things like that, and he knows it. When the pen finally arrived, I took it out of the box, and began writing with it. Dh watched. When I got through writing a couple phrases with the pen, Dh looked at my handwriting, as if it was the first time he'd ever really noticed it. Now he's not the least bit upset I got the pen. I fully understand the appreciation many of us have for some some of the vintage items we collect.
this next generation the Millennials don't write. So not only fountain pens are going by the wayside so is fine writing... lettering and calligraphy... I used to dabble with Calligraphy but can only do single words and Maybe a sentence. Too many years of printing ingrained in my brain washed out my hand writing. I don't think I could do it for very long.
