The Old Folks Home

I'm not particularly pleased about it either, but despite having Lyme's we can get it again. Our neighbors to both sides have gotten it, and on both sides required hospitalization. We'll take our chances with the pants.

I wondered about the LLBean stuff too, like how much would be absorbed by your skin - wearing them for hours at a time. I wonder if Consumer Reports has ever tested them for safety.

SCG I would think in your climate they (eggs) would not survive winter.

Our tick count is a lot lower than usual (I suspect they drowned) but the mosquito population is unreal. I think the bats are getting too fat to fly.

The problem I'm having with my resume is getting across that I'm an awesome worker and that I don't have ADHD when it comes to jobs. Oh look, a chicken.

Despite the fact that I've been at the same employer since 2007 I've held 7 different positions in that time period. One of them not even in the field I have a degree in.

Basically, give it to SCG. She'll eat anything.
I helped a coworker write his resume when our plant was closing. He wanted to transfer to the Kansas City plant because they still used huge steam boilers for power, heat and other uses for steam. He had a stationary steam license and there was little opportunity for that skill around here. He was very smart but just couldn't write a complete sentence or spell. When the KC power house supervisor saw the resume, he immediately called our boss to schedule an interview. Our boss was less than enthusiastic about recommending my coworker because of some history they had. The KC boss said, "wow, did you see his resume?" Our boss said, "well, he had help writing it".
Anyway, he has been working out well in KC ever since. That was 2006. He wanted to pay me but I wouldn't take anything but he insisted on giving me a dollar as my first income for resume writing.

having written several hundred resumes for MYSELF over the years. Highlight projects you worked on and the timely manner you achieved them. Time is money and thats a bottom line for alot of companies. What that will do is demonstrate your stick to itve ness and organizational skills.

For example from my own resume:

  • from 19xx to 19xx started and finished Iso 9001 documetation project. Converted tribal knowledge to demonstrable and duplicatable processes.
  • Redsigned Widget A which had xx amount of parts and cost a thousand dollars to make. Reduced the cost by two third and the quantity of parts from 100 to four.

so treat your individual positions during that time period as actual jobs Highlight the tasks you were required to do and your accomplishments doing it. Oh and if you got a bonus for job well done mention that.

hope this helps/

Good advice.
I was also taught to toot your own horn writing a resume. If you worked on a project as a team, don't say we accomplished X, say I accomplished X.

Anyone else dealing with an abundance of deer ticks? Ever since the temperatures have dropped I am getting swarmed - literally on a daily basis. I spray my pants and still pick them off of my jeans. I've been spraying the dogs with a horse spray and that seems to work for them, but I am 'wearing' deer tick welts.

Thank goodness no. I haven't had a tick from my property in years. At the old farm, you couldn't go outside in spring, summer or fall without getting covered. I always wondered what good purpose ticks and chiggers have.

I wondered about the LLBean stuff too, like how much would be absorbed by your skin - wearing them for hours at a time. I wonder if Consumer Reports has ever tested them for safety.

The ticks survive. Growing up, it got into the teens below zero each winter but come spring, the eggs had hatched and those seed tick would climb my legs by the thousands.

yeah the bugs shall inherit the earth - if they even want it. after we get done with it

Will that be when we populate Mars?

Before going out hunting, get wet in the shower, lather up with Fels Naptha, or Octagon soap. Don't rinse, just let the lather dry. Go hunting. When you get back home, shower as usual. It's a great alternative to daily applications of pesticides, and has enough glycerine to keep it from being too harsh, and drying on skin.

I'm one of those people that mosquitoes love, so I tried a couple of the treated shirts, and liked them. Then ran across this stuff https://sawyer.com/products/permethrin-premium-insect-repellent/
You can spray it on most any fabric (not recommended while you are wearing the garmet, but I have sprayed my pants while wearing them before) let it dry, and it repels mosquitoes, ticks, mites, gnats, etc. I "feel" like its less harmful than spraying my body, so I gave it a try and I really like it. I think my chickens free ranging have also helped. I haven't seen nearly as many ticks this year.

Way back in the dark ages, (back to the days of tick dipping dogs) many of the beaglers would dip their brush pants in tick dip and then wear them in the field. Until that is one guy developed penile cancer that resulted in the removal of the affected part. Doctors attributed it to the prolonged exposure to the tick dip.
