The Old Folks Home

43 gourds walked off? Did they follow the path of the wandering pumpkin and just not find their way back?

I'm thinking it's a squirrel. BF has seen them up on the ledge where the gourds are. I put the game cam up but it was too far away and didn't catch anything. I'm down to one gourd this morning and I put the game cam in a different location.

Michael Smith has a fabulous recipe for biscuits, he adds frozen butter to the dough. You shave the butter on a cheese grater. Then you get little buttery holes in the biscuits when they bake!

I want that predator tank!!

First hard freeze of the year last night. It's 24 right now outside, 28 in one of the coops and 40 on the back porch.
I didn't take any precautions to keep the water systems from freezing. Fingers crossed all is well. It was going to be below freezing about 10 hours. I know, that's stupid but I ran out of steam yesterday.
I'm not EVEN ready for winter. Still running underground conduit. We had some major rains setting back the trenching but I hope to have the underground portion done today.
I have a 5 night reprieve on freezing temps. After this coming Friday (when it will be raining) it looks like the rest of the year will be below freezing at night.

Long range forecast on Accuweather doesn't look like there will be any days into January that stay below freezing. Nice warm winter for roosters' combs and wattles.

I want one of those critter tanks! Someone please make us some!

Congrats Deb on getting your numbers up on your writing!

Scg maybe you could put some wire over the gourd to keep the critter out of the last one. That is terrible.

CC I hope your water systems are not frozen.

We are suppose to get a freeze tonight and tomorrow night. I think my doe might have some kits either Mon. or Tues.
The lady said she was likely already pregnant when we got her. So I will turn on a light in their pen to help keep them warm.

I once put in a 6'x12' raised strawberry bed for my kids. I knew the squirrels and birds would want some so I put some in my flower beds around the porch for them.
I went and bought some netting and staked it into the bed all around into the ground I thought the squirrels would leave it alone and eat the others!
I was soooo wrong! I came home and those little @$%#'s had ripped open the netting and ate every strawberry! WE never got the first one!
