I'm late to the party, just what I was going to suggest.
Being from the Midwest, I hat dry air. I can't get used to the dry nostrils.

solution for dry nostrils........

step one go out to the barn......

step two, find the grease gun......

step three.....well you know step three......lol

just be sure to stop pumping when the grease starts coming out the other nostril!!!

I first discovered the problem on a ski trip to Steamboat Springs, CO. That first night, I thought I was going to die. The room was so dry. I had to get some nasal spray and drink about a gallon of water during the night.

Grease gun, not sure about that as a remedy. I guess the nostrils would be well lubricated.

When it actually does get cold enough here to run the heat, and it dries the air out, I do use the humidifier, or boil water on the stove. That keeps the sinuses, and throat from drying out too bad, but it does not always help with the static shock(s).

One year a lady was passing out samples in the grocery store and just as I took it from her - we got a terrific static bolt and it knocked it out of my hand and she jumped back. When I would go to turn the tv on (no remote) you could see sparks before I even touched the set. My young son and I always zapped each other unintentionally. I tried wearing leather gloves, lots of denim . I've never seen denim get static-ey coming out of the dryer but I still get zapped. I'm afraid to pull sheets out of the dryer they crackle so loudly. I usually just leave them half in and half out to sleep it off.

I keep an iron hen and chicks water thingie boiling on our woodstove to help improve the humidity around here in the winter. It helps a bit, but not a lot. When it gets really bad I have been known to stick bag balm (or petroleum jelly if I can't find the bag balm) up my nostrils to lube them up.

It didn't get above 32 here today, time to pull out the heated waterers.

Hi everyone,
just checking in. None of you must have ever lived in a farmhouse. I now have an upgraded version of what I had years ago. If you have floor heat vents you can get these from Vermontcountrystore.com They look like your registers but actually replace them. They have a reservoir built into them that you just fill with water when the air gets dry, instant humidifier. Reminds me, I can see mine under the stools by the counter waiting to get put in.

I'm working the late shift today. No matter what I tried, I couldn't sleep in. I took the extra hours to finish this quilt. Both Dsqard and I made the quilt and started on it last February. It feels good to finally have it done.

Here's Dsqards version (we had the same kit for the front, hers is quilted much nicer than mine is):
