The Old Folks Home

Thank you for the welcome
I was here in TOFH in August and have been out with life for a while.
Most of the threads I used to view regularly have died off and I have just been lazily lookin at new threads. Very many of the people here are ones that make me laugh or have helped me with problems with my flock before.

Lets see I am stay home wife and mother for almost 30 years now. 5 Children, 2 Son in law's, 1 Granddaughter and 2 more grands on the way next spring. 2 dogs 6 house cats (DH is a catlady) 12 stray cats 15 hens 3 roosters.
Edit to add 1 Darling Husband.
Looking for a place to laugh with no drama attached and ya'all make me giggle. I do hope I am still welcome.
Wisher keeps us in line!

This site does a great job of drama-shooting every one here seems to just want to laugh and help.

:frow nice to have you join us. We discuss so many different things here, jump in at what interests you, or ignore the stuff that doesn't... The subject will change quickly! Lol

x2 ! And I love that spiral display. I keep telling myself to order one of those.

I would love one but we have 3 indoor cats. Minimally, the youngest would be playing "what happens if I nudge the NEXT one off?" We have to hide the toilet paper in a drawer, he will shred a roll in no time.

kudos for you catch and release........

and I'm gonna laugh a little bit, not mean spirited, but at just the novelty to me of releasing mice.

Well I figured they should have a chance. I let them out at the far end of the barn, probably 150' from the house. I just don't tell my daughter that I gave up on the humane method and bought the snap traps. We only have a problem in the house in the winter, they are happy to stay outside in the summer.

You catch mice under the seat inside your wife's car?

And she'll still willingly get in and drive it?

Maybe you didn't inform her of their presence?

There's so much dust and debris floating around under the seats (everywhere actually) in my truck, I think it would defeat the sticky overnight. But then I've never had mice/rodents inside my truck...

I've been catching mice inside the house here off and on all winter. I have no idea where they're coming in at... I'm on a solid concrete foundation all the way around... I discovered they were even in here because I was standing at the counter and though a saw a shadow go running across the floor ending under the stove. I smacked that one with a broom handle and threw it outside. Some times I'll go days in a row finding the peanut butter completely licked off the paddle... even though I force it into the folded area. Right now, I've gone over a week with nothing touching the traps... but I don't know if I got them all or not. I'd guess not. I want to try one of the zap traps just too lazy and cheap to go buy one.

Mice don't need much of a hole! I found that I had to put my snap traps in a corner with a cardboard box against it to form a tunnel so they HAD to go over the trigger. Otherwise they cleared the bait from the side without tripping the trap.

On added light and all that, we're down to about 5 hours of natural light at the moment, and it's mainly overcast all the time, so it's pretty dark. I've got the chickens on about 12-13h of light at the moment, and it's been enough to get 2 new layers this past week. Today we reached a milestone, when we got our one thousandth egg. Pretty sweet, those guys have pushed out over 50 kilos of eggs already.

Your chickens are slackers Felix

My spreadsheet says 4,208 from the older girls, 225 kilos. Gotta tell you that egg count number is AMAZING to me. If I didn't keep track I would have guessed it as a LOT lower. 43 from the pullets that just started laying - 3 down, 4 to go.

How have you been?

Love that chicken quilt. I have fabric to start a chicken quilt with tumbler blocks. It is on the list but likely not next.
I forgot the juicy fruit tonight.

use peanutbutter tonite. DO NOT set the trap let them get comfortable all over the stinkin thing once they figure it will not hurt them and there is no fear or caution BOOM set the trap and catch your rat.

Hmmm
I got to thinking after my intro
If DH is the catLady which he IS! all the cats love him and the stray kittens call to him through the office window.
How is it that I get to be the Litter Queen?

come to think of it that is probably why they like him more. I don't shake hands with our septic guy either. (No offense intended I am very glad someone is willing to do that job)
