The Old Folks Home

Nancy made me think of a certain song about boots made for walking, and nothing wrong with Sally either. Growing up with the name Felix made me hear a lot of jokes about a feline cartoon character, and also, it's a huge condiment brand here, rivals Heinz. So Felix Ketchup is a common joke too.

Had you been stateside you might've had Felix Unger jokes added to the list....

A favorite movie of mine growing up was Robert Redford's "Jeremiah Johnson." All that pioneerishness! Living out in the wilderness, the isolation, beautiful scenery, fending, etc. But the reality is that I eschew camping and prefer the creature comforts, so that kind of log cabin lifestyle is a no-go for Yours Truly. I have no doubt that if I were in that movie I'd have been shot for whining....that or Mr. Johnson would've never come home.

We had record heat half a week ago. Today there's 3" of snow on the ground. No yardwork today! Good time to work on the Christmas cards.

We have a holiday party to go to tonight, semi-fancy. I'm in a quandry about footwear, though, as there's no parking close to the residence. Anything with heels is impractical. Anything with tread is unfashionable. Sigh.....

Bunny, ouch, that's gotta hurt. I haven't had anything more serious since I took a jig saw to my left thumb last summer. Luckily that was mostly a scare and only took three stitches.

SCG, sunrise at 0918 and sunset at 1514 here.

same could be said for a knife.

I've decided anymore, that if I drop something that will hurt me trying to catch, I'm gonna let it hit the floor, and get me out of it's way

The entire bunch of you!!!

Such teases!!! (I would love hot weather)
Hey Alaskan, it snowed all day yesterday... still cold and overcast here today. Supposed clear later & be sunny tomorrow (Monday) then more snow Monday night through Tuesday. Craving a nice thick Ribeye cooked on the grill, and would do it no matter the weather, but they aren't on sale and haven't been for a while... and I can't do $12-13 a pound.

I think I would have loved to have grown up in that lifestyle. My wife, and even myself agree, I was born about a hunnert years too late. even in my 20's, I would have loved to have moved and taken on that lifestyle, heck, even in my 30's. but here at 45, no way I could start living like that.

I still do allot of work around the house, manually, rather that grab a big power tool, or the tractor, but no way I think I could do all of that to survive, at this age. Old and fat is no time to make that kind of adjustment.

Kudos to you Al. much respect.
And I'm pushing 60 and though now able to (no strings) no longer feel capable

I don't even hesitate to grab that big ole' power tool and wish I had more to choose from!

Shame on me but my eyes are going so I have an excuse... I read that as condom... couldn't figure out how that was like/tied to "Heinz"... Anyway... chuckled a bit at the various connotations... anyway...

No, we were the Cape Fear Fair and Expo entry. Most of the people involved are owners/volunteers in the livestock tent during the fair. A lot of us were wearing red T-shirts or hoodies that say "LIVESTOCK STAFF" on them. People love seeing the animals during the fair, so we make kids and animals the focus of the float. It's kind of funny - last night, some of the animals in those pictures weren't on the float because they had a previous commitment to appear in a live nativity, so though we had lots of kids, we were kind of short on hoof stock...
WOW... that is so cool that you give back to the community like that! Thank you! I remember as a kid, we didn't have livestock and I really enjoyed when I had the opportunity to be near some. It wasn't frequent by any stretch.

I'll have to go digging in the closet to see if there's anything that will withstand a walk in the snow or mud. Some leather is never the same once wetted.

OK, so is it here that one inserts a "joke" about how many pair of shoes are in the closet pile you'll have to "dig through"? You're not on a scale with Imelda Marcos are you? Kinda gave away my age with that question, but then this IS the OLD folks home so most should understand the reference...

Hope y'all can settle down and watch some good football today. Coming down the stretch here and there are some good games coming up. GO PATS! (been a fan since the 60s, don't even try to sway me)

Alaskan don't feel so badly. One winter we had a nearly 70 degree day, then the temps dropped like a boulder & we had a record snow fall. Snow fell so heavy and fast, people left their cars everywhere and walked. We couldn't get our car down the street. Neighbors helped each other and shoveled out places so once the car was in motion again, it had a place to stay. People pretty much didn't have garages. That was our Blizzard of '67.

Otherwise a big drop can bring on tornadoes. Do they have tornadoes in Alaska?

My collection used to be HUGE (back when I could do the high high heels), and the closet could rival Carrie Bradshaw's (but without the pricy Manolos). If your legs ain't so hot, have killer shoes to compensate....or if you're short, wear tall. Since then I've pared down to flat styles, but it's still a selection with multiples of each type. The funny thing is that most of the time around the house I go barefoot....
