The Old Folks Home

You are probably right. But If these awesome penedesenca eggs of yours were under my broody instead of in my bator.....I would not take any chances. I would have Ft. Knox.
I would chance it with mixed breed eggs
I am with you!

I have only had one good broody so far--The rest sucked!

I blame breeding to remove broodiness from hens.

Speaking of loving your property, here's one of the reasons I love my camp property

Yep we messed em up on that regard. But choosing a breed to perform broody duties game crosses or silkies or cochins... I plan on using Sumatras.

It would be worth while having one or two broody tending hens in the flock. Acutally my EEs always had one or two that went broody duiring the summer. Only problem is they work on their own schedual not yours.

It is nice to have a Brodie raise chicks.

I have read posts from people that did get broody breeds and not get a broody. SG Dorkings for example. The breeder tried for a lot of years and last year gave up and bought an incubator. I hatched for her for three years and that got her some of the best progress she had seen--now it is the incubator for her.

Ok so I did it I moved her after I did some more prep on the little red coop.
I blocked off the nesting boxes so they would not risk falling out.
and blocked the door to the little run about a quarter of the way up

Sorry about the bad pics I must have to clean my camera.

Sun shine(the Buff one) thinks she wants to be Broodie now and has spent the last couple 4 days on the nest with Baby Bear (the Blue).
So when I picked up the nest box tonight to move them they never moved an inch carried them from the back yard to the garage safely Nest box eggs Ladies and all no moving.

Gotta be something with the flash and the insulation making things fuzzy.

Also I candled 1 egg - nice air sack but didn't want to keep it away from them to long to see if there was movement.
I will take longer candling and do all of them on the 27th if there is no hatch by then.

God willing it will work out.
After (probably) reading horror stories and what I should have done links I just couldn't leave them in the other coop not enough room for food and water and it is a long drop out of the coop no real protection on the underside of the coop from elements and with just chain link and chicken wire I think Silkie chicks could scoot right out and the Cats would love that I am sure.

Thank you for all your help and advice I really appreciate it.
