The Old Folks Home

I have taught all the poultry hand signals. The turkeys take about 8 weeks to "get it" but the chickens are much faster, by about half. We'll see how the guineas are. So far they are all out and seem fine. They've really imprinted on the toms it seems.

The coop fairy does chicken clicker training classes at our Humane Society.

We've got some Chinese people who started a Chinese+sushi restaurant close to us. They charge 20 euros for a set of 16 makis and 8 nigiris, and it's delicious.

I make my own sushi when I can get to the fish market. I have the sushi rice and nori seaweed sheets.
It is very hard to beat the Mikado smorgasbord by my house. There are other excellent places farther away but for the price, they can't be making a dime on me.

Today's patient:

She had a bit of a limp, and got some meloxicam for it. Karin said she could feel babies in there too, so we should get some mini bunnies in about a week. Sorry about my ugly sweater. *Edit* ...and mug.

It's still early in the game and it would be foolish to declare victory, but...

... all the guineas faithfully returned to the coop without human prompting tonight. They also (strangely) returned to the part of the coop they weren't jailed in and over half of them figured out how to roost. The smartest one has been roosting with the chickens for days, 4 are on the lower "stair" roosts and the other 4 are on the table (about lower roost height) over the chicken food.

So that was a couple weeks of brooding indoors, then move outdoors to a guinea jail in the coop with chicken wire sides so they can see. After 7 weeks I released 4 of the guineas (about half). A week later I released everyone else.

I think part of the success is it's freezing outside... they definitely don't want to sleep in the outdoors the next few months here.

@Beer can

Very awesome chickens.

We are now raining. :rolleyes: I am just praying to God it manages to wash all of the snow off of the road before it freezes up again.

@vehve my first thought was "dang is he young and clean cut" followed by "that is one giant bunny" and "nice sweater"

@superchemicalgirl sure is nice that they are not running off. I hope you don't tempt me to get any, but they are fun hearing about.
