The Old Folks Home

I sure am glad I don't have to contend with snow all the time like some of you folks. Today I'm fortunate that the high temp will be close to 70......but alas, it will be short lived. It will be cold again less than 36 hours...sigh.

Did somebody say something about cornbread? I fixed two pans worth yesterday ......plus 10 links of kiolbasa, steamed squash, whole leaf spinach, cream style corn and brussel sprouts in butter and garlic sauce.

Well, all of this seems to fall into what I suspected, the cheap ones don't really help. So maybe I'll stick to my snow shovel. What are the pushy thingies that are 30" wide with a wide handle called in English? That thing works ok but after few hours it gets old really fast.

I think that is what SCG was calling a snow scoop. We have a plow on the front of our UTV and that thing is awesome. I have been having issues with the winch so I ordered a new one today. Should get it tomorrow. Will have to put it in over the weekend.

I have to agree with Deb:

How many folks were you cooking for? 10 links of kielbasa is quite a bit! I'm primarily a carnivore, but I have to say, whole leaf spinach (with some butter and salt) and some steamed squash (also with butter, salt & pepper) sounds delectable!

I love kielbasa, mom always made her scalloped potatoes with chunked up kielbasa on top, everything crispy on top in a oven. DW makes it with ham chunks... :-(
Don't ever buy turkey kielbasa, it's NOT. I bought a case through work cheap, big disappointment, just long fat hotdogs....Made good pickled sausage though...

I slice kilbasa diagonally to expose more of the sausage and carmelize it in a bit of Olive oil. We like it crispy but the carmelization gives the cabbage Wonderful flavor. I use two Kilbasa links that are like a loop.

Then once its carmelized I start chopping and dropping a whole head of cabbage. and put a lid on. As soon as I see the cabbage is wilting I tip the lid and make sure all the water goes into the pan. Then I scrape the bottom and lift the meat up out of the cabbage. Till all the cabbage has the juice from the Kilbasa.

By the time its done cooking there is about a cup of water in there....

if I get bored with cabbage I do brussle sprouts.... They get a sprinkle of vinegar.

Oh and Salt pepper Garlic and Smoked paprika on all of it.

I take my knit cap off to you, you are a person who deeply understands snow & what to do with it. I'm sure Vermont puts out more snow than IL. does.

Weather rollercoaster here. It's already 50 and supposed to hit 58 but I wouldn't be surprised if it tops 60. Then rain and snow the next couple days. Down to +3 Sunday night.

The bees are already bearding and taking cleansing flights. They are all hanging out on the sunny side of the hive.

Hopefully I'll have time to go into it today and see if I need to do anything special. I think I have to remove a hive body at least.
