Thanks WVduckchick and Chickadoodles!
The Coops section of BYC really provided a lot of helpful hints. I had looked at a lot of ready-built coops, but didn't like the fact that you'd have to step inside for cleaning or that the entry doors were kind of narrow. That and the price for what you got. My main complaint in the DIY build -- other than I live in a shingle-less zone of the United States...who knew? -- is that it took far longer than anticipated. Far, far longer. I had hatch-along chicks that were, well, pretty much chickens in the back bedroom. That wasn't so bad, but a couple were escape artists who enjoyed their walkabout touring a little too much. I had my grow light setup in the same room and one escapee took out my 2015 pepper crop on one venture from confinement.
Doing it by myself was an exercise in self-reliance and ingenuity. MacGyver lives! Don't underestimate what you can do when left to your own devices. I wish I could say I did it all, but no way could I bend and sit on the ground to put up the undercoop wire mesh barrier... Not without rolling around to move and looking like some broken windup toy. Darn knees! Well, one and done. Glad I don't have to build another.

Reallly? That's super cool... Although the reward to me is having an uber-easy cleaning coop. Chicken chores are the least time-consuming of my morning duties.
I would give you the prize if I could!

There are couple of time a year when Nifty gives stuff out.

I hope you get a prize this year!

@Alaskan - I thought right away that it was right in your neck of the woods. Glad that all is well with you and yours. (I was just a bit concerned)
Hope all the wells survived. Sorry about the mess at the church. Think your priest has the right idea. Because of the very special value of the rug, the dawn should work (used it lots myself) but would stick to cool water to minimize the damage to the colors and fiber. Hate to say it, being female and all, but that definitely sounds like a project requiring the patience of the ladies.

Hope the aftershocks aren;t rocking and rolling you too much.
Really strange your birds didn't react. Must be true Alaskan stock.
Hope they will at least duck if that big smoker decides to blow!

Sour, congrats to you, and my condolences to the missus for putting up with your antics :p

@ChickenCanoe
Denomination is Orthodox. Our church has a pretty nice webpage with LOTS of photos.

http://www.homerorthodoxy.org

The above is the home page, with a nice big church photo, but on the right of that page are page choices, one is "photos"

There are several different photo albums, one is "seasons" and has a bunch of photos of the church burried in snow, pretty good shots actually.

As to earthquakes, yep, we have those all of the time, just usually smaller ones. We also have active volcanoes, and currently sleeping volcanoes, and all of the rest of the exciting "ring of fire" stuff. Somewhere on the internet you can even watch the seismic activity with only a few minutes of lag. When my kids were little St Augustine was errupting, and so our eyes were glued to the seismic readout. It was lots of fun. We got a layer of ash... But nothing else. Still fun.

I also find that super strange. I asked spouse if the chickens started hollering and crowing, but spouse also heard nothing from the chickens. :idunno

I currently have the chickens in three different groups, I wonder why they were all quiet since all sorts of people on the Alaska Facebook pages were talking about chickens running out into their runs, crowing all the rest of the night after it happened, etc. :idunno

Maybe my chickens feel super safe in their coops. :)
