The Old Folks Home

Congratulations Mr. & Mrs. Sourland.

Congratulations Peep for coop of the week!

dsq, The telephoto lens you are using makes it look like it's in your backyard. I didn't realize it wasn't. It makes sense that the owner wouldn't want anyone getting hurt exploring in it.

You always find people like that - they can be freezing to death but, won't admit it. We have COLD weather here by anyone's standards, and I'll see high school age girls waltz in with leotards and skimpy short sleeve tops, people (not many) in shorts with sandals,
hu.gif
. I dress for the weather even if it means a face mask, winter coat, fleece lined jeans, hat & hood - boot sox and boots. I don't care if I get hat hair or even look like a pregnant Grizzly. I am warm!! And proud of it.

When yer warm DD...yer smiling and by smiling, I don't care what get up you got on...even donning any one of my Fudd hats...

The prettiest item you can put on is a SMILE!

Winter foot gear and summer foot gear...

Rick bought me fireman boots few years back...yeh, not cheap running from $250 to $300 but I use to go thru one pair of Sorrells (nfi) a season here--totally trashed 'em. Fireman boots are waterproof for when it warms up to melt, flexible in -45C and rated for -100C. The sorrels sucked being rated for only -40C/-40F and even with redhead (nfi) wool socks...my feets froze. A tad heavy but I get into the cold mode shuffle alongs and by the time spring comes along, I find the first week in run runs hilarious...spring has sprung and watch me leap abouts!

Tara, I need that red Fudd hat, would almost go with my woolrich outfit, it's a darker tighter pattern though. Warm boots, I have a pair of mickey mouse moon boots, military, feet never get cold. When I first got them, size 13, I had to drive my subaru justy barefoot, one boot covered the clutch and brake or brake and gas, lol.

My son came out for Xmas, and I had an Elmer Fudd hat for him but in blue I tried it out myself and really liked. He acted like it was horrible. I figured he'd leave it behind and I would have it. But, he took it with him. Either he actually liked it, OR didn't see where I had stuffed it into his suitcase. Now I have to wait for clearance this year and get one for me.

@ChickenCanoe
Denomination is Orthodox. Our church has a pretty nice webpage with LOTS of photos.

http://www.homerorthodoxy.org

The above is the home page, with a nice big church photo, but on the right of that page are page choices, one is "photos"

There are several different photo albums, one is "seasons" and has a bunch of photos of the church burried in snow, pretty good shots actually.

As to earthquakes, yep, we have those all of the time, just usually smaller ones. We also have active volcanoes, and currently sleeping volcanoes, and all of the rest of the exciting "ring of fire" stuff. Somewhere on the internet you can even watch the seismic activity with only a few minutes of lag. When my kids were little St Augustine was errupting, and so our eyes were glued to the seismic readout. It was lots of fun. We got a layer of ash... But nothing else. Still fun.
It is fun to follow seismic activity and volcanic eruptions.
We're near the New Madrid fault and have earthquakes but I've never felt one in my life until I was standing at the counter in a Costa Rican hardware store. At first I thought a big truck was driving by but soon realized what it was. That's my one and only experience. Wife and kids said they've been awakened at night here but I sleep right through.
My dream is to live on the side of a Costa Rican volcano. Cool nights and mild days.
Alaska is huge and on the ring of fire. CR is on the ring of fire and tiny (the size of West Virginia) with 6 active and 61 dormant volcanoes.
One of the most powerful volcanoes in the world is about to erupt near Mexico city and another nearby is also about to blow - Colima and Popocatepetl.

It is right between 2 cities with over 25 million people between them.
41,000 people are on alert to evacuate.

I also find that super strange. I asked spouse if the chickens started hollering and crowing, but spouse also heard nothing from the chickens.

I currently have the chickens in three different groups, I wonder why they were all quiet since all sorts of people on the Alaska Facebook pages were talking about chickens running out into their runs, crowing all the rest of the night after it happened, etc.

Maybe my chickens feel super safe in their coops.

They're probably used to them by now.

We all need a FUDD hat to shame our children in...I am given the task of Christmas stocking stuffer person and stuffed many a stocking with warm gear...but know way better than to add a Fudd Hat fer the spouse or the kid. Bwa ha ha. My kid would actually squidge way down in the vehicles if I was in fine Fudd hat form...heaven forbid his mother was never that

looking! Told him I would hand him a paper bag fer his head any time he wanted one. IN disguise, eh.

The red one has twinky lights...got it at the local Co-Op here and never seen one since. Well with lights at least!

Love my hats...this one was from Santa in 2014...the ears flop up and down if you squeeze one of the blue tabs...

I like this one alot too...I have an EXTRA eye to keep on the bus kids, eh!

I can't drive in boots either...so the run runs are worn for driving here in winter but with our own vehicles...we have usually got a spare pair of boots in the truck. Mitts, bella calva, socks...all year round as that would simply suck to get stuck and have to mush it out and end up with frost bite or simply dead.

Yeh...if it left DD...you know he's wearing it but not proudly...obviously he needs a few more years/tree rings on to live up to "who cares what others think...I am warm!" and do that in public.

tongue.gif

I simply do not care if people stare...if it bothers someone...l00k away...not raining or snowing on my parade. Warm, happy, smiling...I'm good so get on with it already, eh.

Canuk, this one ROCKS!!!!

At least ONE hat in the collection is bound to amuse...the ones that are animated get even the most crotchedy kid to smirk...even if it is jest for a second...but I catch them...everyone is gonna lose it on something or other...well OK...almost everyone...sheesh...
hmm.png

Crazy bus lady hat on bottom left

Everyone smiles and laughs when you don a crazy hat...that is unless yer of course a kewl as a cucumber DOT worker up here...

Yeh, laughter is the best medicine ever...eh.

Al, are you in any of those pictures? How about the one with lots of people in front of the church?
