The Old Folks Home

Since the subject is goats, I have to share these. Another chicken friend has brand new babies!

So, you are not interested in the dwarfs at all. They are so darn cute though. And, you have to have them thar goats with spots? :) They are really cute with the spots, have to say. Man, I was reading on that one ad I posted,.what was it..almost a half gallon of milk..or was it a gallon? That's a lot, either way. What do you do with your milk? Do you drink goats milk? Or do you use it for other things, or both?
My third baby, could not drink anything, not even that soy stuff. Finally, goats milk got brought up. I looked on the shelves for goats milk. What? This was in the 80's, and I'm sure it's even more expensive now. Anyway, looked in the newspaper for someone that needed their goats milked. Found someone. Made the 15 min. drive, learned how to squeeze, and got a lot of milk. Only had to go a couple of times a week, until they went on vacation, then I came in handy for them.
And Yes, my baby handled the goats milk. Good thing, I thought they were going to have to put him in the hospital to thrive.

Yes, it is a lot of milk. When Augustina died, the family I got the goats from offered me a milker. But my plan was to keep the baby with momma most of the time, separate them out for a few hours when needed and then milk and put the baby back in. I don't need a half gallon to a gallon a day, every day. I do plan to make some cheese with it. I'm going on a retreat in July to learn to milk a cow and make cheese with it (start to finish!) and hope to use what I've learned to make goat cheese. However, now that Augustina died, my plans have certainly been moved back a bit. Oh well, gives me time to focus on the beehive.
I like your spunk... not many mothers would have found and then learned to milk a goat.

Well at least she's unique looking without ears. And really pleasant tempered. The guy who sold her to me was also NICE as nice could be. And she wasn't even 200$.

Her registered name is Caramel. But we're going to call her Vincent Van Goat (you know, due to the lack of ears thing).

LL

Look how happy she it! She knows she's going to a great home! And mama will love her, even if she doesn't have long ears. :D
