The Old Folks Home

I DO have goats, they think they are LGDs and will only eat hay and grain, and paper, and cookies, and bread.
Try pulling up some grass and offering it to them like it was a treat. That is how I had to do some of my critters to get them to eat it.

For sure... AL? What's up with your ruminants? You haven't had much if anything to say about them since getting them home. Seems you're all about eggs and chicks and stuff. What was the overall prognosis on the quality/quantity of milk?

little rebrobates... Got moms tags..... We went up on a feed run feeding chickens and Goats and cats and horse.... then about a week later mom called me and told me someone stole her tags off her car. So I went over and looked.... and burst into laugher.... tooth prints scraped through the tag.... seventy five percent of it was gone.

I paid for replacement tags. and kept an eagle eye on the goats after that.

And yes I would have them again in a nanosecond.

They have been chugging along.

We finally have gotten two full milkings with zero kicks. :D awesome progress, hay, it only took us a month.

We get a gallon a day from two goats... Which is fine, but not stellar.

I worry about how fast the quantity produced will go down.... My children drink about a gallon a day, so the fact that at the does peek production we are getting exactly what we need...uh...... :(

I have a deposit down for two super quality milk producers (over a gallon a day per goat, mini saanens), that are yet to be born.... So I will have to feed those goat kids for a year and a half before they produce for me... Oy veh!!

I am tempted to buy one more doe in milk... But then I would have to feed her, and she would be another half a gallon per day goat.... Oy veh!!

Anyway, not sure where we want to go....

BUT, the milk is good, the goats are good, spring is early this year, it looks like I should be able to take the goats out of the barn this week and put them in the pasture during the day...and that will help a tiny bit with feed.
