The Old Folks Home

They are all the same color

Wisher...snake sign? I have missed out on some things here.

This is the best I can find this late at night, however, both those two were well up behind the snake den sign, all the way up this little slot.

I only went about halfway up, continually canvassing for snakes. Luckily it was too cold but one can never be too careful.

Later that night we found out from an employee that the area was in fact not a snake den, but an area where buzzards nested. Buzzards are notorious scavengers, often eating horrible dead things. And when threatened or scared, they regurgitate their rotten food onto the aggressor to help get away, much like a squid does with ink. Anyway, we didn't see any buzzards, either, but I would have paid money to have a buzzard vomit at one of these two. AT, not ON. I still had to ride home with them.

CC could you visit that woman in Canada and bring eggs back with you? Or would there be a lot of red tape and customs $$$$

Um, yeah, the latter. There are special rules for importing live poultry OR eggs. Including vet checks both in Canada and in the USA. (I guess we don't trust their vets)

So no, not cheap and easy. I had thought maybe I could get some nice White Chanteclers somewhere in Quebec (the border is all of 20 miles north of me). At least you don't have to quarantine Canadian birds at a USDA animal import facility (which likely is nowhere near your home).

Live poultry:

Hatching eggs. Since the vet can't inspect the actual animal there is a requirement for the flock to be inspected:

Sooo, AGGRESSIVE and DEADLY poisonous snakes or harmless garter snakes? Not sure where I would end up on the snakes vs buzzard barf decision if they were the first type of snake.

SGC..you still crack me up...the buzzard story. You know you would have felt really terrible if a buzzard did that to a friend, you just know it.

It was nowhere near "too cold" for snakes, I just told you that to keep you moving. I saw two and just didn't say anything..............

for what its worth Buzzards arent the only birds that use puke as a defense.... Heron chicks will vomit over the edge of the nest when alarmed.
