The Old Folks Home

Got the game cam out so I can figure out where it's coming from. And then your last emoticon would be correct.

Good luck, and shoot straight.
I've been lucky so far, (knock on wood) neither one of my coops are predator proof.
I got this on my trail cam a couple months ago

Thought my dogs were keeping them away...Just saw one tonight crossing the road coming from our driveway...
Not playing 'Russian roulette' with my birds anymore.
Going electrified, saw a nice one at our local feed store the other day, had battery cable (cheap solar panel can be added) and 110 hook ups cheaper than TSC just 110 lower 'bite' ones.
Going to set up both coops similar to these, a lot cheaper than 'predator proofing'

That's a momma and glad she didn't get into your birds. Looks like she was nursing pups... or are they kits... I can never remember. Maybe I should just call everything babies...

Vacation? Whats that? Fortunately im a stay at home retiree with nothing to do.....yeah, right! I wont get into the particulars but i cant afford a vacation. (One of these posts im just not going to edit this 'smart' phone text and see if anyone can understand the mess 'swipe' creates)

My 22 birds are very friendly (hungry?) And they mob us when we go in to feed them corn by hand. They see us walking by the coop and come running out into the run, right up to the fence. They are so aggressive they scare the kids and i have to distract them with corn tossed out a ways to thin them out or the kids couldnt feed them. They all eat from our hands now but they peck too hard for the kids hands so i have them toss it out for them. Even the turkeys eat out of my hand now.

I have an auracana rooster that is very timid but he tries to jump the hens now and crows. I remember my bantam learning to crow. Took him a while to get it right. This one took right off with a real crow, just a little croaky. He crows like a pro now and he is only 4 months old.

Ill get some pics of the kids feeding them and put them up. Im going out to collect eggs (forgot to do that).

hey Hi there glad you came aboard....

Aren't guineas supposed to be a great alarm system??? Or are they still hiding up a tree?

Only good when they are awake......

They're good and not good. There's a constant "din" when you have guineas and sometimes they freak out because the neighbors cat comes over and sometimes they freak out because they see ghosts, or the wind blew or a leaf looked at them wrong. At least that's what I think, because I can't see anything out of the ordinary.

I did not hear a particular guinea din that night. CrazyNeighborLady did walk/push her 4 young boys over here last night and the guineas (and chickens and turkeys and ducks) did not care for them one bit. My guineas flew off multiple times. I had to yell at the children to shut up and be still to try to get the guineas to come back.

That fox picture looks just like the ones we get here. They're beautiful but deadly. Someone logged an area kinda right behind my house which is where the fox dens were. They're on the move, now. Not sure if they're coming from a different direction now, and that's why I missed it.

Welcome gpeters3

Well my Buckeye hen went broody again! This is the 4th time. She does not get the hatching thing. :( But I ordered 20 cornish x so tonight I am going to put the chicks under her and hope she will raise them. I put her in the chick side of the coop that has baby wire around the bottom of the run so they have a small yard outside also.
I will give them feed in the am and pm only. So they will have to stay separate from my layer flock since they have auto feeders and have always been able to eat when ever they want.

Scg I hope that fox moves on!
