Never been to a pig pickin' seems I've missed a lot of monumental happenings in my life.
Pig pickins are monumental for sure.

That's the best way to do it. Let someone else raise them and buy feed....pigs are so hard to ....I love bacon also. Always best to raise pigs with more than one, so your doing them a favor....flavor...
Old people here, 50% old, 50% not so old, one tag along teen,(Hello, I haven't been on BYC in quite some time, 2011 I thinkanyway, it's nice to see the place is still around.
I hope to be dropping in more frequently, and this thread looks like a good place to start
Nope, just looked, it was 2012
Definitly will be missed, I hope his son Jason comes back, sounds a whole heck like him in his posts. Hellbender had a way of saying stuff, wish I could have met him in person. I would have never had got the naked necks I have now (5 weeks old now) got them from where he said, Cackle, always thought they were ugly, SCG here I think posted a super sexy pic of one a yr ago or so when I mentioned they were ugly, still didn't want them, hellbender told meThanks NAF. I didn't post on a bunch of threads with him, but he did post some on the WV thread and invited me to the production thread. Wish I had been able to keep up there, but I'm a bit behind on many threads. He was such an interesting character! And had a way of ticking folks off that I thoroughly loved! Lol He will be missed by many!
Is that why I never see a pig nose at a pig roast?!!! They pick it first! If u ever go to a pig pickin (roasted whole hog)and watch the old timers and the cook...they all start at the snout.
What does that make me? An old fart at heart? That's the best way to do it. Let someone else raise them and buy feed....pigs are so hard to ....I love bacon also. Always best to raise pigs with more than one, so your doing them a favor....flavor...

OK, so I obviously missed something... SCG, did you find that pig that wandered on to (then off of) your place? I don't recall ever hearing any more about it... Congrats on future bacon regardless!

Quote: I love pig pickin parties but I don't eat the snout.
Quote: Congrats on the pig venture. That's an awesome trade off for sure.
I wish I could talk my hubby into it. But he said NO WAY!

Jason posted under hellbender's ID just over a week ago. His brother Aaron (@Turk Raphael ) said he also has one of his own but I don't know what it is.
Completely agree. I love my turkens. Surprisingly the turken line that I appear to have doesn't have "hair" - you know the fine hair that is left on a carcass after plucking it? Mine make amazing meat birds because of that, a super clean carcass that doesn't require waxing, shaving or blowtorching. I ended up moving to other breeds, though, because selling turken babies up here was incredibly hard. No one wants that breed.
I wonder why. Oh, because they are UGLY! If you are raising chickens for eggs, you really want them to be nice looking since you'll be seeing them daily for years
