The Old Folks Home

So far today I've lost my best and sweetest Lionhead buck and I've sprayed down everyone and all the pens and cages 6 times. It's 108 and I can't breath. Need AC for the animals. Heck I need AC for us! At least 2 weeks of this. I'm dead tired after the se3cond day. Yesterday I thought I was so on it. aA
Awww wolftracks I am so sorry for your loss!

I have glorious Sunday morning news:

I had to take it down with the .22... the thing laughed at my air rifle pellets.

It's huge. I know it doesn't look huge, but it's in the large Have A Heart trap.

While I was dispatching it another one ran across the driveway as if to mock me... but I still got ONE.

And BF slept through the whole thing. Even the .22 going off. Right outside the bedroom window.

HAPPY SUNDAY! Thanks for all the well wishes. Keep them coming. I got about 436908 more of these to take care of.
YAHOO! Great shot SCG way to go!!!

Kevin the Free Peacock is still here. He has made himself a member of the flock. I don't know where he is roosting at night, but he checks out the roof of my house and the coop as dusk falls.

I was checking on the broodies in the coop and discovered something cute: one of my blue Orp gals has a new baby. She's been one of the three hens who have been brooding on the dirt floor of the coop in special spots. She was moving about clucking, so I wanted to see her chick.

It's a Cayuga duckling!

There is a duck broody in the coop, too, but SHE built her nest in the top half of a round kitty litter box. (The bottom portion made an open nest for non-broody hens to lay.). I guess she laid an egg or two in other places in the coop before taking advantage of the litter box lid shelter.

And Sister 1 must have added it to her clutch....

Caleb the gander has adopted my three female goslings, but they still come running to see me when I am outside. "His" four ducklings are no longer in need of his services, although he will go swim with them when the goslings are napping.

what a nice story to make me smile on a lazy Sunday morning. Thank you.

Guess what, y'all?

Disturbing their nest yesterday seems to have caused some new, panicked rat behaviors.

This bucket was clear this morning. Noticed it this evening when I went to reset it again.

What an entirely fantastic day to be a rat-assassin.

YAY!!!!! Get those suckers! And congrats on the one you pounded with lead!

Linda I love reading your stories.

Thanks, guys.

Anyone ever try 22 rat shot?

It gets mixed reviews online. Last night I was out with the pellet gun and a red flashlight. Was able to see the rats and the sights but couldn't take them down with the pellet gun. Thought I was just missing last night, but after dear rat this morning, I realize it's just not powerful enough to take these exceptionally large critters down.
you need to be reasonably close. Or just use .22 shorts and be a good shot. This is one of 3 weasels I killed in the last 12 months. One of mycats got 3 more for me.

and a possum from a few months ago.
