My baby sister stresses about loosing her pets... So she spaces out their ages.
She has three dogs with spaced ages....but her cats, she likes raising in pairs... She just this summer lost the last one from her first pair.... Sad sweet story...
When I was down there this summer I was happy to see the cat that I remembered from 10 years back (a dark calico, and I am very partial to calicos). When I first showed up she had three cats, the one old lady calico, and two young cats (I think three years old).
But towards the end of my stay the calico came up to the barn (the cats all sleep in the feed room) and was in horrid pain and had all sorts of things wrong with it. Anyway, my sister in tears called my cousin to come over and take care of the poor old girl. That night, the kids and my sister went to bed still sniffling. My sister though was woken up by the dogs barking and went to see what was going on. The dogs had treed a tiny malnourished kitten! (All of my sister's cats are fixed).
My sister took the kitten to the vet the next day to have it checked out. The kitten was tiny, skinny, and malnurished but nothing was wrong with it that some feed wouldn't fix. That little wild kitten tamed down in one day flat into the sweetest thing. (My sister keeps the kittens in the house until they are mostly grown, and then lets them be barn cats.)
Anyway, the vet also had a box of free kittens, one of the free kittens was a calico....
So, my sister took the calico home to be a companion for the wild kitten that showed up on the night that she lost the old calico......
Sorry for your loss peeps! I hope some joy creaps in to light up those sad clouds.
