The Old Folks Home

How come one of the ads on this page is for a home care, elder care company...:) wow, way to go internet tracking! Haha

BWAH! HA! HA! That's too funny! I have enjoyed not having to see all the ads since becoming a Golden Feather Member, but I hate I missed that one! I guess the name did it's job, with the bean counters, anyway!

Welcome Wrangler, I'm so glad you joined us.

SCG, I am sorry you aren't feeling better yet.

I think I've mentioned before that I have three hens, one of whom has laid her first eggs, so this afternoon I was thrilled to come home to two green eggs! Lucy and Ethel do almost everything together.

Is the one on the left a lavender gray color? I know that it is probably just he camera messing with the color, I assume the background is white? I checked mine and unless they are laying brown eggs, I had none from my three POL EEs.

Thanks.

The background is a white piece of paper. I could probably get a better photo outdoors. The egg on the left is a little more tan or olive and the one on the right is closer to seafoam green.

I love finding a new egg--it's better than Christmas.

Who knows genetic of egg color? I have three hens laying a blue egg, much to my surpriise. I knoew the mother was an EE but I though the dad was a brown egg layer like a RIR, so now I'm left guessing "who's the daddy?" It's a nice true blue egg, not a green. Not olive Must be a white egg gene?? Or a blue?

I think white is the base for blue eggs? Brown is the base for green? I had it down once but I guess I forgot it. I don't have a blue layer yet, but have had green, pink, and brown. I think blue is harder because you need two recessive genes...oh well don't want to get a headache.

Ok, let's see if I remember this (it's been a while). I think the gene for blue is dominant. You have a base of either blue or white, and the brown is added on top of that. Brown on a white base is brown, brown on a blue base results some shade of green. Arielle, I agree, I wouldn't think the daughters of a green/brown cross would produce blue, that seems totally off the wall.
