The Old Folks Home

Poor SCG on top of everything else - "Prickly heat." I've been battling that too. Location you mentioned and some other ones. I hate that. Wouldn't you think they would have developed a cure for it, and also my 'slight' rosacea :(

Sure wish I could send you half of my rain...because yes, it sure is nice having all of the wells full. People tend to get grumpy when they have to wait 4 hours for a single glass of water to drink..

been there, done that, super prefer to not go back.

but yeah... when it is hot you need 100% cotton anything else and you might as well sit in a sauna until you melt away and die.

Up here in freeze land.... 100% plastic, or wool.

Hey, Alaskan!

I need some fashion advice. (You're probably snickering by now)
Anyway, I've booked a trip to Reykjavic, Iceland, in January and I haven't a clue what to wear...other than the fact that my standard New Mexican clothing will undoubtedly be insufficient. Wind will probably be a factor. I figure Alaska is perhaps similar?
What is good cold-weather gear? And what do you recommend? (Besides not visiting Iceland in the winter months...)

p.s.
Viewing the Northern Lights is on my bucket list and the tour package was just too good to pass up.

Sorry for butting in here but spent many years in the land of sun and rain..
easiest LL bean has long johns but they cost for one trip I would not be without them

"The woods" is GOOD! and I agree, 70 degrees year round would be about perfect!  Now if I could have the fall foliage and something other than flat featureless land to go with both, I'd almost consider it heaven! I have 2 red headed kids and they both burn... tan? what's a tan? ;)   I used to tan really well when younger, now all I seem to get is farmer's tans (short sleeves, arm out the truck window while driving)
Latestarter, when I was a teenager, I used to lie out in the sun all the time. I always knew I'd pay for it later, but I always had hopes that maybe all my freckles would run together and give me a permanent tan look. Boohoo,I was wrong!:) Where are you anyway on the wrong side of Kansas? If I find that Euphoria with Fall leaves, I'll let you know. We can become chicken neighbors :) Maybe you're farming in the wrong outfit;)

Well, at least we aren't in a drought anymore. :thumbsup

We are in a major drought here. We got only 2.5 inches of rain in June, 1.5 inches of rain in the month of July (spread out) and so far in August 0.09 inches. This is the exact data from the national weather service for my area.

It has been so hot and dry (rain wise) but humid. Today it feels like the jungles of Costa Rica out there. It was 97 when I left work today. I am certain I'm going to get prickly heat on my butt again.

The state drought team is meeting and talking about the possibility of wells going dry. The prediction is that it's going to be drier than usual through October. We're rationing water.

gold bond and cotton underware....

deb
Yep Deb, you've got that right. Our lakes finally have come up again around here and there's at least more than a trickle in the Kern River. Most were completely dry.But we're still in a drought here, too,in Bakersfield. I'm so sick of trying to catch fish out of the California Aqueduct, so we can finally get the boat out again.
Hey, guys, I just realized it's my birthday today. I almost forgot. If anyone is curious about my age,I'm 39 plus shipping and handling. Hehe :) I think me and chickens and ducks and bunnies and quail and tortoises and doggies and Bebop and Buddy, the budgie and cockatiel will have a pawty, potty, party this morning. Some of us will probably just wing it, though. Ok, I'm getting goofy in my old age. Better go to sleep :)
