I'm done with the workshop. Nothing too much new today. Cleaning up all the projects. We also reset an obelisk with mortar and the tripod after someone spent 8 hours cleaning it yesterday.
For giggles, here's the before of my team's row:
(the woman is digging out a broken and felled grave). You're looking at 3 footstones (only 2 belong) and a downed child's headstone (the footstone for that grave is middle right).
Facing the other direction - the row we worked on is middle right of the picture. You can see all the headstones off their bases and sunk into the ground. Many were concreted into the ground. Everything is filthy.
And the after:
All the ones off their bases were chiseled, cleaned and reset. The footstones are all nice and aligned and straight. The headstone that was on the ground is now in line with her mother's stone which was dug up and cleaned and put back together (under the bag under the far tree).
We visited that abandon cemetery on state forest land when we went out picking blackberries Saturday. I haven't been there in yrs.
These are the only stones left besides a couple small marble ones in the front. What happens when no one takes care of or cares, doubt something like this would happen in town where people can see them every day, at least I hope not. When I was a kid 30yrs ago there was probably 30 stones in nice rows. 20yrs ago they were starting to fall over, didn't look so good, even 10yrs ago I don't think it looked like this, this bare. Don't know what happened to them, maybe they fell over, got covered with yrs of leaves and sunk in the ground? Or people stole them? We didn't dig around to find out. Sure does look like that one was shot right in the middle before it was two pieces....hope it ricocheted.....
Anyone care to guess who was at our fair Friday? The same day we were there, probably walked right by or stood next to him and didn't know. Girl I work with sat next to him and his family at the derby and didn't realize it. Not a big celebrity but been on the news a few times this yr.
