The Old Folks Home

diva, I'm guilty of being a night owl too. Always have been, when I could. Dh works nights, so that works in my favor too.

Yes, I remember reel to reels, and the big phonographs. Ours had the automatic arm, that would activate the spindle to drop a new record onto the plate, and then lower the arm onto the record. I did have a portable phonograph for personal use, that was about the size of a small suitcase. I had to change the records on it myself, and position the arm.

I applaud all of you with quilting talents. My sewing skills include iron-on tapes, and safety pins.
@getaclue My Mother was desperate to try to teach me when I was younger
my Grandma and I use to sit in our tiny living room and she would sew these quilts by
hand showing me teaching me, I did not have time in my working life always on the go..
Being disabled with my spinal column closing I was bored out of my mind
so started hand quilting as my grandma taught me.
As Graves took my vision there was more blood than material

Love those signs @superchemicalgirl !
We had our first frost last night, was hoping it'd hold out longer. Looks like everything I covered survived just fine.

OK what in the hay is going on with my birds 18 layers two days at 5
eggs only down from 16 or 12 ? I have changed how I feed I was going through 9 50lb bags
each month so instead of things they could kick out or poop in I made one shown on here

This is the one amazon sells for 99.99 mine were about 12 each

18 hens and NINE 50 pound bags of feed a month? How many chipmunks, rats, wild birds and woodchucks do you have? Those are my major feed raiders.

I gather you have no free range. Even so, I only go through about one 50# bag every 2 weeks in winter when there is nothing outside for the girls to eat. There were 16 of them last winter. Down to 12 now due to coon (2) and illness (2).

It was huge, took up a giant part of the wall in the livingroom.

My FIL still uses his even after moving to the retirement community. Sure looks bigger in their small "apartment" compared to in the living room of their 4,000 sq ft house.

@Alaskan beautiful old piece just like one we had in the living room
our was big enough had the tv in it also

I went through 50 pounds of feed a week for my 30 chickens and 10 Guineas and that was feeding all the wild critters that could get to it. and they got it free choice....

Before i knew bout fermented feed I wound up accidentially making some due to rain getting in one of the feed tubs. When I found it it was already bubbling....

I tried to throw it out and the goats went NUTZO over it ate half of it before I could get it away from them. No ill effects....

We've had a tapping frost or two already but surprisingly no killing frost yet

Odd year. We are normally in full color or even past by now but the trees are just beginning to show real color. If we don't get some cold nights we may not have any good color at all this year. I am actually anxious for a killing frost/good hard freeze, hopefully before the first snow. Because of taking so long to get back on two paws after my accident two autumns ago, I am waaaaaaaaay behind on my arborist chores. I was just prepping to start some needed trimming and overdue pruning when I fell so now everything that was minor is major. It's ok, I actually enjoy the fall work, just me and the wind rustling the trees , the crisp air and a bit of still warm sun, the smell of the fresh cut pine, apple and cedar wood is wonderful. I did a bit of a walk about yesterday and could not believe what a milder winter and wet summer has done for the trees! I really have a lot of work to do and not being quite as quick and agile as in my younger days, I am going to need all the daylight before the snow buries everything that I can get.
It probably would help a lot too if it would ever stop raining!

My chickens are beginning to think they are ducks! Great, there goes the satellite, just before the game is starting. Oh well, guess I should quit whining. At least we are north of the big rivers ( even the Wisconsin isn't much more than nice fishing creek up here) so we are not under any of the flood warnings popping up again just to our south. Good day to curl up and watch some football. Just hope poor DH doesn't have to drag out the generator again.

Alaskan I had 2 of those old stereo's. My dad bought me one when I was a kid to listed to my records in the garage full blast! hahhaha My first boom box! hahha
I had another one when I got married the first time. I love the sound those old stereo's had.

I use duct tape, masking tape or what ever kind of tape I have around for a cut if I don't have any bandages. I also try to keep a large package of gauze in the house just in case.

What a gorgeous machine. I have 2 treadles - both Singer - 1894 and 1905. I love them.

Our first frost will be tonight. I sweat my butt off at Dsqards - came home and today's high was 51 and windy. That's more like it.
