The Old Folks Home

One of my best friends is on vacation visiting his mom and sister and going to his cousin's wedding today. Been sending me a lot of nice beach pics, when he gets back it'll probably be snowing here :-(
He just sent this one, bet someone here knows where the lucky sob is, @perchie.girl , @ronott1

Retired in 2013. Now, like the Vermont Yankee plant in Vernon, Vermont, to "decommission" it. Costs shittons of money and in the case of VY, they have 60 years to do it. I have no idea who agreed to that when the plant was built. What do you bet the company that owns it doesn't even exist by then and the cost (SURE to grow a ton as the years pass) falls to the state?

For VY decommissioning:
In December 2014, Entergy submitted the Post Shutdown Decommissioning Report to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. This report estimated that the total cost for decommissioning the reactor would be $1.24 billion. The same document reported that only $665 million had been collected in the 42 years of operations of this plant for this purpose. Entergy hopes to raise some of the shortfall funds through "external financing".

Regarding San Onofre decommissioning: In August 2014 SCE announced that decommissioning will cost $4.4 billion and take 20 years; spent fuel is to be held on-site in dry casks indefinitely.

I have more confidence in the 20 year San Onofre decommissioning happening than that of Vermont Yankee unless Entergy pushes forward to get it done.

Figured a non-Google-able pic like that would still be recognized by you @perchie.girl , yup, he called it 'passing the double D nuk plant!' Lol!, on his way to San Diego for his cousin's beach wedding. His mom and sister moved out there from here about 20 yrs ago, he visits every few yrs for a week to a month. Never personally have gave thought to ever making it to California myself but dang he's posting some awesome beach and boardwalk pics between San Clemente, Del Mar, and Venice Beach, bar pics, restaurant pics, San Diego beach wedding pics... The USA sure does have some beautiful sights, coast to coast. (except for the scary nuke plants
