THis is my style pool. Easy and temporary!! Just can't get those huge bales around here, and need a skidder to move them. Hmm. . . wonder if I can get them delivered and just roll them into position . . . . . . WOnder what the liner is made of ? Looks thin but not like a tarp . . . .

Arielle, those are just regular $6.00 square bales of hay stacked up. I used to cut, rake, bale those! lol

I came to the realization the other day that I really AM a crazy chicken lady. Always thought I was just eccentric and happened to have a lot of chickens and other poultry, but something I said/wrote over on Oz's Diary ("of a crazy chicken man getting the flock out of here") really demonstrated it. It was right there in front of me. And I wrote it, so there was nobody else to blame. I am not embarrassed by being eccentric..... But I have been wincing with this new realization. At least I know through all my work experience answering 9-1-1 calls that "crazy" does NOT equal "stupid." Hang on - Sparkle the House Silkie wants me to give her chicks some treats. She's been teaching them to jump up to take raisins from my fingers. Too cute to resist.

Well my roo has settled in and I was looking at how he carries himself and I'm sure he is a mix of some sort. I don't know what kind of hens to get him. I looked at alot of bantams last night but couldn't find anything that quite looks like a match. His tail is to high for one breed, body to low for another, to small for the rest. He is 10-12 inch tall,about 2lbs, with VERY short legs,and has a smudged white earlobe. I tips on what to pair him with?

Pretty! He has a serama look about him. I would pair him up with some serama hens or maybe some old english hens. I love his coloring!

I did see some great self blue english eggs that caught my eye. And they had some splash too.

Cool pool! That would be a great temporary pool, but if you had to purchase the bales and the tarp it would cost a bit. You might come out cheaper by getting the above ground pools with the filters and use it year after year. I used to have an above ground pool and we built a deck around it. I enjoyed it, but it was a lot of work. We have so many trees on our property and there were always leaves and debris in the pool that I had to clean out. I did a lot more cleaning than I did relaxing! I'd love to build a small in ground pool with a screened house over it so that it would be easier to keep clean. Maybe one of these days!

I agree on the cost. If you cut and bale your own hay it would not be so bad. I had an above ground pool also and loved it. They are alot of work.
