The Old Folks Home

Naw it my old girls all the way here.. almost have to wait till after the new years day hatch
as the incubator is in front of the white just now

I opened the pop door for mine this morning. Temps are up in the 20s today. Sun's out.

They just craned their necks, looked outside at the snow and ice and went back to eating breakfast. Silly little prima donas. Think I'll go out then and dump a load of leaves in the coop. That always clears the place out of chickens. They hate that sound and the sudden appearance of all those leaves out of thin air.
Wow. It was around 20o already when I went out to open up the coop and the girls came CHARGING out! Haven't seen them do that since the fall. Most did bee line for greenhouse but my two youngsters ran right out the gate and started hunting for patches of grass where we had shoveled. Also tonight when I went out to lock them in they were all hanging around the pophole ramp on the outside of the coop and I had to shoo them in. Normally they are waiting for me, but just by sticking their heads out looking for me. It was good to see them ALL out of the coop getting some fresh air and I was able to actually clean the catch board under the roost without a bunch of "supervisors" chattering at me and inspecting my work.

Perchie this is for you

Greetings from me at the hospital. I came in through emergency, and they admitted me last night. When they did the chest x-ray, the tech said "oh my". I said that didn't sound good, and she said it wasn't. 2/3rds, or more of my left lung was filled with fluid.

Today they used a needle, and drained 1.5 liters of fluid from my lung. There is more fluid, but they can only drain so much at a time. It's not a fun procedure at all.

I should know more about everything tomorrow, as quite a few of the test results will be back in, and should reveal more about both what I'm dealing with, and how to treat it.
