The Old Folks Home

Early last week we had about two inches of snow and had to go into the city. 16 miles on the interstate. We saw MODOT out with their equipment on the way in and on the way back home, which was funny because the lane was clean and clear and they were still chugging along with their snow blades down scraping off....water? Overkill? I have to give Missouri credit. Road projects are done on time or before completion date and they take snow seriously.

We just got ice here. My back steps had about a half inch of ice on them for a couple days. This morning one of my hoses froze and busted and flooded the back yard.
I would have rather had snow here. Oh well maybe next time.

The pic above is one of the BOM of Pat Sloan's and the 1 1/2 in lavender strip on the side is pinned to see if I like it or not. But I am also going to do the binding and back in the same lavender so I probably won't leave this strip on the side. lol

I love the lavender on the side. Use it and then bind it in that blue!! It is gorgeous! I'll check out the scrappy club, but if I end up with more projects...

Heck, if everyone dresses for the interviews in something not unlike what they wear to work every day, the potential hire gets to see the REAL people they may be working with.

No one should see the real me.

It was -10F here this morning, it hurt to breathe. Warmed up to +5F for the afternoon.

I almost feel guilty. We are expecting 50 degree highs here for the next two day.....mind I said 'almost'. Ice is just the worst though. Don't fall, everyone. When we get to a certain age we don't 'bounce' as well as we once did and when older bones hit concrete, concrete always wins.

Yes, Chickadoodles, they are a very nice family. I buy my scratch grain and sunflower seeds from him and my husband buys his chainsaw supplies from him. He told my husband that he got new chickens recently. I'm hoping that he hasn't gotten rid of his bantams.

Pardon me for being naive but I would not have thought the Amish would be dealing in chainsaw supplies. What parts are usable without the gas powered motor? Or do they figure YOU can use powered machinery even though they do not so it is fine to sell the necessary parts to you?

Yeah, Roanoke doesn't know what to do with snow... they wait until everyone has driven on it and packed it before they even try to clean it up, then they drive around with their blades in the air because "we can't plow ice"... then when they do "plow" they don't clean it, they only bring it down to about an inch of super packed snow/ice which is smooth on top, where they don't plow, it packs and freezes, but at least there are tread marks in the ice to give you a little grip. I pulled out of my parking space today onto solid shiny ice and parked on more of it at work this morning...

And then the sun comes out and melt polishes that packed ice really well!

No one should see the real me.

They will if you hire them! Why make them wait?

BTW, I presume you read @Wisher1000 's comment in regard to you. I will trust her opinion over yours. We are all too self critical

Bruceha2000, the Amish do use small motors and even large motors if the need arises. The man we bought our farm from ran a cabinet making business. He ran his machinery using a diesel engine. His wife's wringer washing machine was ran by a gas powered motor. All of the Amish harvest their firewood using chain saws and most use top of the line machines.

The gentleman who gave me my eggs operates a small motor/engine repair shop and admits that he has trouble with electrical schematics. My husband has gone over to help him sort out problems with wiring on different repair jobs. He sells everything from barn lime to chain saw blades in his shop.

It isn't easy to understand the Amish way. One young Amish man we know once told us that sometimes he doesn't even understand why they do the things they do. But evidently, it's okay for them to use power tools, even drive tractors as long as they do not own them.

I could never be a member of that club. I wouldn't be able to keep up with all the rules.

@microchick I was not aware that the Amish used engines of any sort
next thing you know one will get a tv
