Now to decide what turkey to hatch. I am glad I have time to think. I want one that might not die if the wind blows the wrong way.
I rarely have poults die-- yes, it does happen. But not any more than for the chicks. Or ducklings. All babies that get wet are prone to hypothermia. I found 2 poults lying prone next to waterer, cold but not dead. Lifted them gently to under heat lamp which was 95 and left them with a prayer. Later I stopped by and they were gone-- up and running around again, dry and warm.

And on the opposite end of the spectrum..... I set 30 or so eggs for CdM Turkey Hatch, hatched 5 live poults, lost two within days, one a week later, raised two to two months, when a coon took one. The other died last week, at three months. It was great when I left for work, dead at 4:00pm. I have two, month-old poults in a tub in the garage that I am afraid to put outside and don't know what to do about. I would give them away, if the boys weren't so attached to them..............

If they don't make it, I am not going to try again.

I have heard from a lot of people that poults are the hardest to raise to hatching eggs. You can change their food and they will die. I am hoping to maybe set a dozen in the spring and I am hoping for a couple to hatch and live. We will have to see when the time comes. I am so sorry about all your losses Wisher. That is definitely sad.

Speaking of chicks in the garage, I had a hen hatch three chicks in the coop about the same time I brought the poults home from the feed store. I took one for a tutor and put it in the brooder tub with the poults. Two weeks later, I noticed a marked difference in the brooder raised chick and it's hen raised siblings. The inside chick, raised on starter and under a lamp, was twice as big as the two with the hen. I took the two that were with the hen and brought them inside to be with the others. There is still a difference, but the smaller ones appear more active, now and seem to be catching up to the other one. I feel a little sorry for the hen, but the chicks are better off, and she will get over it.

So far my Narri turkey seem stronger than my Slate Blue turkey. I also just lost 5 poults and only one Narri. I still have 2 Slate blue poults and 3 Narri's. I do like the looks of the ones I have left, they seem strong. So I am hoping I won't loose any more. The one's I have lost were from 4 day shipping! I feel lucky to have the ones I still have alive!
