The Old Folks Home

Dinosaurs are not extinct! They are all around us! In the form of the deadly broody hen!

Poor sweet Dolly. She really is a nice little Welsummer hen, probably the friendliest of the ones in our flock all prim and proper in her little broody apron. It's just all those hormones make us women CRAZY CRAZY CRAZY I tell you! At least once a month or when we are broody.....er......preggers

I gave her 8 eggs today so she is a happy camper. Oh well.....what's a few more bantams?

My little Uggums is the same way..so friendly when she is being normal. That poor girl has been broody for a long time. I take her off of the nest every day so she can eat, drink, and poop.
I'm thinking my Uggums doesn't look as scary as your girl though..whew!

ron! You scared me for a min! I saw that this little one was born, I thought you meant April at first..shame on you. For those of us that check in 4X's a day to see what's up.

That little giraffe was very small .. for a baby giraffe. Not very tall.

I know!

The other Giraffe snuck on out!

I just sold half of my flock! I'll be hatching all year to replace them. They only wanted 12 at first. Ten hens and two roosters. Then they texted when we were in the way wanting more. Sooo. We turned around and headed back home to load up more. They ended up with 19.

Mornin' everyone!
Another "crispy" one here (a balmy -6 F) but it's supposed to warm up quick, chickens are getting tired of being cooped up. I open the pophole as soon as the temps get out of the 10's but they want none of that, except of course my two Wyandotte teenagers.

You might remember I told you about our roadtrip to my oncologist in the big city on Monday and the planned stop at the TSC we'll pass right by on the way home for their Chick Days spring supply sale. Well, turns out they don't get their chicks in until the following Monday

(not sure he's figured out the live chick part, hehehe). I get the bright idea to try to move my appointment (no success of course) and the DH overheard me on the phone and I had to explain why I tried to reschedule. So he says, "Well, the TSC is only a little over 70 miles away, we can go the following week if you want to, just remind me." What??? Ok, so where is my DH (the one who ALWAYS thinks we have enough chickens) and what did you do with him??? That was way too easy.
His birthday's coming up next month. Why do I have the feeling this is going to cost me more than the price of a few chicks?

Be careful...lol.

So your broodies; turkeys AND chickens poo in their nests?? I haven't had that here...yet. Mine always jump out and run around like little hovercrafts with their wings out, clucking. They crack me up! I've videoed them a few times for Gran.

The first thing they do before they get out of the door of the coop is to drop it like it's hot, mega large style. I just have to be careful not to step on those turd bombs.
