The Old Folks Home

I only knew on grandmother she was my fathers mom. She lived into her mid 80's. My other grandmother died in her 50's from heart problems.
I cherished the time I had with my grandmother she passed when I was 12. Both of my grandfathers were gone before I was born.
My paternal grandfather went out to the corner bar for a beer when my dad was less than 7 yrs old and never came back. What happened to him remains a mystery to this day although a death certificate for him was found. All we know is that he died at a pretty old age. Nobody knows what happened to him in between. Just plain Weird.

The funny thing about my maternal step grandmother is that she was a distant woman and I can always remember being apprehensive around her. She would occasionally hug me but I never thought I was her 'favorite' in any way. Some time after she died I talked to a cousin who told me that when they went through her wallet, the only grandchild's picture she had.....was mine.

I can honestly say that my family tree has it's fair share of well, nuts hanging on the branches, it also has some real gems hiding amidst the nuts! You can pick your friends, you can even pick your enemies, but you are just plain stuck with your family.

Those who are lucky enough at our age to have their grandparents or even their parents around. Cherish each day, each minute with them.

Well said.

two she fired... one she had to get a local Constible to escort her so she could get her belongings.... I knew the grandpa that was my Moms dad ... and Grandpa Fred. His whole family is very very odd... They were married a couple of years after Mom and Dad married.

There are only four of us left in the immediate family. Grandma Mom Me and my son. After that its third cousins for me... Fourth cousins for my son.

My son and his father have never met.... I know he has a grandma in town here but i had to promise never to contact her....

Tennessee first, then Wisconsin in Jenny O factory farms, now this week Alabama and in backyard flocks.
Europe has been getting hit hard for months (China was first tho) I knew it had to hit us.
The paranoia is going to ramp up because what's not being told is it jumped to humans in Asia months ago.
I belong to a couple European poultry groups and subscribe to one of the best print poultry magazines online that is produced in Great Britain.
This allows me to stay up on what not's being reported on this side of the pond.

I'm not planning to go to any shows or bring in any new birds. All my chicks are hatched on premises and there are no chicken facilities anywhere near us, only back yard flocks. The migratory traffic has lightened up considerably over the past two weeks and hopefully history will not repeat itself.

All we can do is be safe, think smart and pray, everyone, that the weather turns warm and stays warm.
