Thanks chickadoodles. I went out tonight and candled after my broody's escape and bad judgement this morning and thankfully the eggs I candled are all viable and wiggling. She should lock down on Sunday or Monday and the temps are due to be on the mild side next week. Keeping fingers crossed.

thanks Ron. tried it all, nada. (had already tried the driver fix) had a fight just to get logged back in after shut down earlier. not the first time that's happened after large ten update. it hangs up and I watch the little wheel spin but I figured out how to break out of the loop. my fault. I knew this one was dying. I just hate doing setups and they are worse with machine that has 10 installed (as I am sure you know). i was stalling hoping that they would get my DSL fixed before this one died. Sigh. I just have to assume either something corrupted or my old faithful has finally refused to cooperate with 10. Guess I know what I am going to be wasting my time on. good thing the weather is crappy anyway.
Maybe try system restore to a good known restore point?

That has been a life saver for me.

That's great Perchie

Maybe an omen that you should spend the money on something else. I'm a great believer in omens. I remember on the old "Laverne & Shirley," Shirley was beseeching the Lord to give her a sign. Then the tea pot whistled and she said "but, what does it mean?" Just like me.

yep. normally that is my 'oh crap' go to and always at least number 2 on my fix it list. This time I just got a slew of errors, different every time I tried including the dreaded registry error. That was my first clue I was in deep doodoo this time. Just tried one last time "what the heck just in case" after all the other changes I've tried, going all the way back behind all of the recent critical updates. This time the message was basically "have no idea why it didn't work but it failed'.Oh well, can't complain. Just wasn't ready to concede defeat, hoping someone knew something I didn't about the new OS. I hardly used it at first but it's still roughly 7 yrs old, this fn thing is just the last quirk it''s recently developed and the battery is completely DOA (only holds a charge for less than 20 min.) soit's time to transfer to the new one while I still can tho i do have everything up in several clouds

See you all hopefully by Monday if the net isn't drug down too much by the weekenders.

Thanks again Ron for trying to help. verymuch appreciated.

My new computer also does something crazy since it did that dumb update. Every time I am trying to type if I bump the space bar it opens all kinds of crazy boxes that I don't know what the heck they are! It did not do this untill it did that last update. And I had even turned of all updates! How the heck can I get rid of Cortana?

If you find out, let me know.

I also somehow got into the "test" facebook group - they push weird things out to my facebook page to try them out before deciding to kill it or push it out to everyone. The latest one is pop up boxes every time someone comments on a post. I hate it, with a passion. I end up with all these boxes all over the place. There's no way to opt out, that I've found, either.

If it wasn't a great place to keep up with friends and quilting, I'd get rid of it in a second.

Uggghhh I hate updates. The last time I did an update from microsoft, I got a bad download that was infected with a Trojan. They had to completely rebuild my computer. The Techs said it was one of the worst they had seen and it was all because of a corrupt update from Microsoft. Now we have the automatic updates turned off and we pick and choose what we update. Plus, I run Linux Ubuntu so no worries.
