The Old Folks Home

Dollar store batteries you have to buy the more expensive one's. I always check their weight, heavy one's last as long as any expensive batteries. The light one's only good for a TV remote or wall clock.
I don't buy seed potatoes anymore.
Just buy a few big bags of what one's I want and store them for a few months, much cheaper.
Last yr I cut them down small, as long as they had a eye, right down to about one inch square chunks. They grew great.
I have use the dollar store brand of batteries for nearly 20 years or more. They are tested in competition with other brands every year at Christmas and win every test.

I have been saving some small red potatoes to grow this year I kept them in the dark to promote growth and they are ready.
Now if it will just dry up enough for us to get the garden set up to plant.

We also have the heavy clay soil here getaclue and it feels like your ice skating when you try to walk on it.

re: taters. Tried the bag method - things dried out way too quickly and I had to water twice a day. And that was Maine.

We ended up building something similar, let me see if I can't locate a picture...

So the bottom rung has fabric stapled to the bottom, and the upper "stilts" are permanently connected. However, the next rungs are just slid over the top and rest without being permanently attached. Keep adding a rung and then adding dirt.

This method worked much better. They didn't dry out near as bad as a fabric or plastic bag and were contained a lot better. The yield was better, but I found I was mostly harvesting taters from the top and bottom sections, few in the middle. From only a few pounds of seed potatoes we really got a good yield. Don't forget to chet (chit?) them a few days before planting.

The boxes lasted 4 ish years before being in bad condition.

Good morning everyone.

It's a miracle!

The SUN is out this morning. I think I've seen it once in the last three weeks. The grass is green and growing, the fruit trees are blooming...and there is a frost advisory for tonight. Bye Bye peach blossoms!

Microchick try covering the Peach trees with sheets. That's what I did here and it worked. You just have to uncover them before the
sun hits them. That is what the Master Gardeners in Alabama advised me to do when all my trees were blooming.

DH is slightly horrified that I want to get burning.

It's my theory (and it's only a theory) that IF large burns still happened (which isn't feasible because there are towns and houses in the way) like when there was no houses for miles, there'd be less issues with diseases, worms, weeds...in essence...issues that over populating and overstocking have caused. I think a good burn is like hitting the refresh on a piece of land. That's just my thoughts...I could be wrong on that.

Just wow. Envious here.

I just read that Walmart is going more upscale?
roll.png
Isn't that what Sears did? And all I see are articles how Sears is hanging by a thread and going out of business. Walmart not my favorites place but it's still the best compared to what else we have. It gets more expensive every time I go there.

Batteries are purchased at Dollar Tree here. And a surprising amount of chickenry supplies.

Still a big mud hole here but it's starting to dry up. Planting gardens here doesn't usually take place until May. I bought large planting pots at Dollar Tree. Not certain what I'm putting in them yet.

I've been sick, sort-of, for the last few days. I hasn't gotten me in its grips...yet. I'm kung fu fighting it off as hard as I can though. We semen test the last bulls today. So far, so good!

I dusted birds until 2am last night.

I hurt my arm last week and just when it was just about healed, I re-hurt it Monday morning trying to get the coop door open. The door got damaged in the wind Sunday. I dusted until I couldn't use my arm anymore. Darn arm.

Hopefully I can finish the girls after we get home from the vets.

That looks great I like that idea

I will probably try that. I have three peach threes in full bloom right now, one pear tree and one apple. They are calling for temps to drop to 30 tomorrow morning so maybe I can salvage some of the blooms.

lilwildrabbit you can see our feed room is the size of a closet it's the little grey building with the white door leaning against it. We only have one metal 55 gal.drum with a locking lid in it now but there is room for 2 and some yard tools and a shelf with a window.
Wicked we burn off this pasture every spring and your right it does help keep the numbers of pest's down and helps fertilize the grass and trees. Please don't mind the junk laying around.
I was not able to keep up much the last couple of years. But we are working on some clean up this year.

Scg thanks for sharing your potato method. I have a couple small red potatoes growing sprouts and I just took several more out of the fridg so hopefully they will also sprout.
