The Old Folks Home

Thanks Alaskan. I have been exercising every other day. We usually eat wheat bread. I am wondering if my coffee is adding to this.

Ummm, yeah Chicka, coffee can cause a short spike in your glucose levels, even black, but it's offset by all the good antioxidents and stuff that actually help. I told my onc not long ago (just before I was dxd with T2) that he'd have to pry my coffee cup out of my cold dead hand! The look on his face was hilarious!!! In ten years I'd never bawked at any procedure, restriction, drug, etc. before. What made it even funnier his nurse had backed herself as tight as she could into the corner behind him fighting to keep from cracking up!

Ha! I said the same thing to my doctor when I found out I had a malfunction in my hearts hard wiring that was causing it to sped up to 140 beats a minute while I was just sitting doing nothing. The condition is called PAT Paroxysmal Atrial tachycardia, which was caused from the Rheumatic Fever that I developed when I was 23. The medication I take has controlled it since 1977 but the doctor told me I really needed to watch my caffeine intake as my heart would be sensitive to it. I told him that was okay. I'd give up caffeinated coffee, tea and pop but he would pry a Hershey bar from my cold dead hand. Made him laugh but he said that was close enough for his approval. I have to admit I do cheat with the coffee. Gotta have my Folgers Black Silk every morning. But I don't miss the caffeine in the pop or tea at all.

Wow! I have no clue how scary that must have been (and even now could be!). I have a friend who developed that a few years ago and it nearly killed him twice before they figured out what was going on (small town medicine, he finally took a trip to the VA hospital in northern MI (one of the good ones). I generally drink half caf, a lot of half caf. Guess it's a good thing we are so far in the boondocks I've never been to a Starbucks. The only time I get to drink REAL coffee since we moved up here is a wonderful little coffee shop in the "big" city to our north.

I was pretty lucky tho in that my pulse never went above 150 during one of my attacks. About a year after I was diagnosed my vet at the time developed it also. He had asked me what it felt like and I told him 'scary'. When he had his first attack he told me yeah, he agreed, it was scary.

Pretty upset tonight. I have a 5 week old pullet showing signs of weakness in it's left leg. At first it was limping, but then I noticed that it was trying to use the leg but it just didn't seem to want to work right. Her breathing is also slightly labored. First Bantam to show signs of Marek's. She is one of the 8 my broody Welsummer hen hatched so those 8 were exposed from day one. DH and I managed to get a drop of B12 into her, just in case that is the problem but I'm not too hopeful. We checked her leg again when we dosed her and it was quite flacid compared to the right leg. She is using it though for support when she stands or jumps. Time will tell I guess.

I would spend the money and talk to a dietician. It's a bit complicated. But an important piece of it is exercise, and I'm not talking you have to Sweat to the Oldies, but a nice brisk walk after dinner (or even a nice slow walk working your way up to faster/longer) will go a long way to helping you process glucose better. Lifting weights (and again, I'm not talking huge weights, just get a set of 3, 5, 8 lb dumbbells) also helps you burn fat and process glucose better. Just looked at my extended forecast, it looks fab: This reminds me of a few summers ago when all it did was rain and I began growing mushrooms in the grout in my bathroom.
Oh blach. The years with two weeks or less of summer temps really stick with you. :sick Today though....first morning with zero ice on pond. :ya

not funny though. We knew our bathroom needed work when we moved here, floor was swelled by the bathtub. Got worse over time. When a mushroom popped up

on the edge by the tub I decided to look further into it. Ended up being a complete gut job. Water line in wall was misting, possibly for a long time. Under the linoleum it was like a sponge.

So awesome!!!!

Were they edible?

Didn't look like anything I'd eat

DW noticed it first, was not too happy. I hardly ever skip work, everyone knows no matter how sick or (hungover) I show up. Rare occasion if I do call in it's during deer season

I called in two days in a row after that. They actually called my house, wanted to make sure everything was alright, knew it was out of the ordinary and were concerned. I didn't know they even cared Lol.
We have two bathrooms, other just a toilet and sink, was hoping to a working tub and shower, took way longer than two days...
DW was not happy. Didn't bother me, it was summer and we have a garden hose :lau
