The Old Folks Home

As a kid I enjoyed wearing the cicada shells /skins whatever. Those little hooked legs would stick on anything.

Great hat ornaments.

More data points that Al and I are related.

I found a cicada on a tree when I was a kid, ripped the rest of the abdomen open and wore it like a giant ring, with the legs going around my finger.

Come to think of it, that would have been a great look during my goth phase.

Opportunities missed.

My cousin's family had to evacuate their home today. The kids heard the other homes falling down, and were quite upset. A bit later, rescue workers knocked on their door, and gave them 30 minutes to pack, load up, and get out. His sister decided the kids needed to de-stress, so she sent them to their timeshare condo, on the beach. They took the dog to the wife's brother's house. Now it's a waiting game to see what's going to happen.

OMG, those sink holes are bad! Plus there are bound to be more of them because they keep pumping water out of the aquifer since more people keep moving there. Makes it even more unstable. Glad we no longer live in FL!

Frightful and devastating

Getaclue, I'm glad your cousin and their family is safe. That is all that matters. Homes can be rebuilt but a lost life is gone forever.

What I have always found fascinating about cicadas other than the cicadas themselves are the Cicada killer wasps that prey on them. More than once I've been walking and had one drop down from a tree with a wasp wrapped around it. The wasp was bigger than the Cicada. I was always glad that Cicada killers weren't preying after humans.
