Today was supposed to be our first 'quiet' Sunday in weeks. A do what you want to do kind of day. So I went down to the pond for an hour with three of the dogs and fished. Coming back I noticed that the Border Collie, Lucy had a fishing lure caught in her tail hair. How she got it there I have no idea as she wasn't near me while I was fishing. I bent over to try to work it free and it being a treble hook, it was pretty well tangled in. At some point I must have pulled some hair cause she yipped and turned around to take my hand in her mouth (she does this. Never bites down, just mouths your hand and pulls it away from whatever is an 'owie')Unfortunately the Jack Russell BC mix thought she was attacking me and went after her. She had the older dog by the back leg and started pulling on her. Her brother was confused by all this but when he heard me yelling at his sister he was sure I was being attacked and joined in. So I had two dogs attacking one and couldn't get either one to let go. The dog being attacked was chewing on me and I don't know what would have happened if DH hadn't heard the commotion and come running with a rifle. He fired a shot in the air and they took off leaving poor Lucy and me bleeding in the driveway. I have dog bites to my right forearm and left wrist, hand and arm but poor Lucy was bleeding from a huge tear under her left leg and three deep puncture wounds and tears.
I'm trying to get myself doctored while DH tried to get the vet on the phone. An hour later he calls back, at least his father did as his son, our reg doc was oot for the day. Trip up to K'ville where he stitched up an 8 inch wound under Lucy's leg and the other four wounds. I assisted , 9 bandaides adorning my arms and hands. She is spending the night there to sleep off the anesthesia we came home so I could properly doctor my wounds and take some pain meds. I have two punctures that probably need stitches but I'd rather they have a chance to drain. I have ABT's on hand, applied butterfly sutures to the worse of the wounds and wrapped myself with vetwrap. So cool in blue.
So much for our quiet tranquil Sunday do you own thing day.
What is that old saying? Man plans, God laughs?
Meanwhile, two dogs are acting very contrite. Very weird behavior considering the fact that Lucy is the Alpha female and they adore her under normal conditions.
