Hi all. I am a retired late middle ager who has just discovered the fun of chickens. I was helping a friend with chores on her farm and realized how much I loved stopping in the coop and just watching. Now we have a tiny group of 7 here ... 5 roosters and 2 hens. Yes ... I know ... So far we seem to be getting along just fine. They all grew up together. Ours free range and tend to stick to the front yard and side gardens of our home. Sure makes it fun to watch them pop around when we eat lunch at the kitchen window. I harbour dreams of TOO MANY critters. We do also have three donkeys. Between the chickens and the donkeys I have plenty of reason to be outside and active every day. Wondering how our Canadian winter will treat the chickens. I would love to get to know some other 'mature' chicken owners. Ha!
Welcome to BYC and the rocking chair club Lol! Not all of us are 'mature' in age I think maybe, ... Don't remember :old
Anyway, what's the rooster in your pic?
Delaware? Light Sussex?

Sounds like my kind of camping! Cabin or RV. ;)
I prefer tent camping, grew up with it and love tent and even lean-to, but it's nice sometimes to rough it during the day, and then a real hot shower and kitchen to cook and eat in, guaranteed dry playing cards, and still can sit out on the porch next to the lake enjoying it , even in the rain or snow.

I used to love sleeping outside...I would walk until I saw a good spot, roll out my sleeping bag and sleep! No tent needed if it looked dry.

now though...

MATTRESS! !!!

I remember the first time our family used air mattresses when I was a kid. They were awesome! Didn't have to pick out a spot out in the tent where a rock didn't poke you in the back.
Then by morning you had a rock poking you in the back cause the stupid awesome air mattress deflated... parents ended up letting us re-inflate them and use the in the lake for boats/surfboards so they were still awesome...
