DId a decent job of it.
In college I had a food science prof that didn't beleive the cholesterol nonsense. TUrns out he is right. THere is enough information now to show that it is a high carb diet tha meses with the locaitonof the chol in the body. It is supposed to be stored int he cells not running around the arteries. A normal diet of meats, fish, vegies, and fruits and nuts, much lower in carbs than the government standard will put the balance back into the cholesterol system. Cholesterol is very important and does a hundred different jobs. It is so important that if the diet does not have enough in it, the body will make it.
THe key is to eat a lower carb foods. SOme sources say under 120 grams, depending on exercise level.
I can move my BP based on what I eat. Certainly my wrist hurts much less on LC. ANd I sleep much better. Carbs effect the whole system including the cholesterol. cholesterol in the 180-220 rang is fine; its the LDL and HDL that are really imporant and tell the story if the foods are have the correct effect.
Insulin plays a part in this also. Cut off 2 heads at once by going low carb. Insulin causes the lining of the arteries to roughen up, then the cholesterol collects to fix and patch and have a place to hang out. THen it calcifies and becomes plaques. Much of this is reversable with a change in diet and adding exercise. Many docs are not doing surgery anymore, rather pointing to some simple changes rather than a big sugical bill. Horray.
( I read many different sources; and especially like the research literature to be cited-- usually long and boring techinical details. THis I though would be more interesting for most folks to read.)
