The Old Folks Home

DiDi! Beautiful job on the photo.. That place is close to us. We love to the falls. You should see it in the winter..make a trip out there when you know the water is frozen. There are people climbing them! That would make for some interesting photos too!

SCG, after reading your "goat stuff" reply, and upon careful reflection, I am nixing any plans for goats right now. I think they're adorable, I remember visiting a farm when I was young - friends of my parents - and loving the goats there.

I don't want any companionable animals to suffer. Maybe in the future when I plant a manufactured home on the new property and live there, but not now.

Thanks for the honest scoop!

Goats are a lot more work than I thought they'd be and a lot more needy. I think you're making the right choice, for now. I think goats are a fantastic addition to any farm, but only when you have the time to give to them.

You guys should smell me. Some big important guy is coming to tour our facility (and focus his inspection on our section, yay us) on Wednesday. I know our section is messy (we were severely understaffed for the past year, finally got new hires) and my boss freaked out on me on Friday and told me to get my people to clean it up. Well this weekend our two new people were working and my tech and I always are there on their first weekends so we can guide them and help out if the fecal matter hits the wind making device. It didn't (too bad anyway) so the two of us spent the weekend cleaning. We stayed an extra hour today to finish up... so 9 hours of cleaning today (and some pretty heavy lifting). Then I got home and BF had made chili for dinner. I whipped up some quick garlic bread to go with it. Then I went outside and did the weekly scrubbing of the feeders and waterers. Then I cleaned out the goat and duck houses.

I think I should just burn my clothes and take a bath in chlorhexidine. I am a terrible medley of smells.

Oh SCG! I just read about your "lash" incident! that is the WEIRDEST thing I have EVER seen come out of a chicken! I read the link with alot of info and I guess it happens in "homonally-disturbed" Hens!!

I will try when we go back to Montgomery next weekend. I only have my phone as I loaned my camera to my son to use. But there is one place that I would love to have someone paint me the pic so I can hang it up in my house. It is beautiful!

Here in the Philippines I can buy a 6 month old local goat for $15 but they are really small.. A Boer or Nubian would be over $400. We have four locals that graze here.

We used to have fat tailed sheep but during a severe el nino drought we ended up giving them to my brother in law.

I have not seen any since

You'd be amazed at what you can find so close to home to take pictures of! Both of these "places" (the first two are of the same place) are within 1/2 hour of my house. Just have to look around a little.

Cynthia, I might have to make the trip up there in winter. I bet it is gorgeous!

I would be surprised if you didn't have at least 1 person asking about the car!

Withered tree, broken home, abandoned auto......sounds like the makings of a classic country song to me??? :hu Wait, I'll go get my guitar and get back with you.....;) Chirp....nice photos!

I just worked a week straight and was looking forward to today off. It's the beginning of apple season here and pick your own just started. I was going to go pick some apples, start some apple-maple jam, some apple butter and then get my hive ready for winter and then go to the fair and pick up my jam. Woke up this morning to flooding here, steady rain with pockets of intense storms (we've had them for the past few days) and everything's cancelled. I did all my barn chores last night on account of having a lot of stuff to do today, and now I don't know what to do with myself!

So first things first... got some apple pancakes for breakfast made.

Recipe at: http://www.penzeys.com/cgi-bin/penzeys/recipes/r-penzeysApplePancakes.html

I don't change it too much. I use 2 vanilla beans instead of vanilla extract, and add some Penzeys baking spice to the egg mixture. Delicious.

What are y'all up to?
