The Old Folks Home

I just worked a week straight and was looking forward to today off. It's the beginning of apple season here and pick your own just started. I was going to go pick some apples, start some apple-maple jam, some apple butter and then get my hive ready for winter and then go to the fair and pick up my jam. Woke up this morning to flooding here, steady rain with pockets of intense storms (we've had them for the past few days) and everything's cancelled. I did all my barn chores last night on account of having a lot of stuff to do today, and now I don't know what to do with myself! So first things first... got some apple pancakes for breakfast made. Recipe at: http://www.penzeys.com/cgi-bin/penzeys/recipes/r-penzeysApplePancakes.html I don't change it too much. I use 2 vanilla beans instead of vanilla extract, and add some Penzeys baking spice to the egg mixture. Delicious. What are y'all up to?
Man that looks deelish!! :ep Hubby loves apples, gonna get the recipe and pick up some apples soon, What kind of apple do you recommend? His birthday is next weekend, and with that butter pecan ice cream.....OM goodness. You sound like a fabulous cook! :drool Chirp

That looks very tasty!

I am really looking forward to Apple Season! We are starting to get some good ones here in Northern CA after some bad old ones last month.

Right now Macintosh and Cortland are all that are out locally in this region, although everything else is imported. You can use any type of apple, to taste. I personally dislike Red Delicious (too mealy for me) and Granny Smith. I'd use anything else - whatever I had.

I'm a good baker... I have a serious aversion to actually cooking dinner, though. For some reason 30 minutes in the kitchen to make dinner is torture for me. But a few hours of canning over a hot stove is intense pleasure.

I also plan to make their apple bread (with the butter) again this year. It was amazingly delicious last year. He may want that, too:

Last year BF took some of the bread I made and turned it into french toast. Now THAT was good.

Those do look great SCG! I will try those soon! I have pear trees and I make a pear pie that my DH loves! I just make it like an apple with the cinnamon and nutmeg and allspice and he love it!

My goodness you love to bake don't you? You make the yummiest things. Then you torture is with these pictures. Want to reach right in and grab! I love pancakes, but I don't believe I ever had a pancake like that! Apples. I'm bringing my DH to the screen right now. He loves pancakes with fruit.
He says, looks good, then he says, look yummy. :) I think I saw a bit of drool with the second remark.

You'd be amazed at what you can find so close to home to take pictures of! Both of these "places" (the first two are of the same place) are within 1/2 hour of my house. Just have to look around a little.

Cynthia, I might have to make the trip up there in winter. I bet it is gorgeous!
Love the pics!
We have old falling down buildings all over the place here. We will try to get out and get some pics one day soon.

Yesterday I went and bought some Roosters and a few birds. One of these roosters is half again as large as all the other roosters. I have no idea what he is. Can anyone help and tell me what he might be or mixed with? Please?

This is him on the right I was trying to get the two of them in a shot to show how much larger hs is. But it did not work out that way.

This is him in another shot. I would appreciate it if anyone would give me some estimates or guesses even. Thanks!
