Snakes are one of the reasons to live where it is cold.
We have had flocks of grackles and red winged black birds in our hickory trees that put me in mind of The Birds movie. They are so LOUD!!
Crows vs Hawks, the flock knows the difference. I was outside on Tuesday doing some yard/garden stuff and a crow flew over and landed in the top of one of the trees. I looked up quickly to see what it was, thinking it was a hawk. No alarm from the roosters, no scattering of the hens. So different than when a hawk is in any proximity to them. The boys sound the alarm and the flock heads for cover right away. They must have some kind of class they take to identify silhouettes like the military does for planes.
