The Old Folks Home

Has anyone ever cut open a white pumpkin? I cut one open today and it reminds me of watermelon and honey dew melon smells! And when you stick your hands in it feels therapeutic. Any way, i am cooking it up for the chickens and i am going to taste some too.

never seen a white one

No fair! That's what I made for dinner tonight. Sausage and pepperoni. Turkey sausage actually. And enough was left over for lunch tomorrow. I love it when that happens!

So far I have sugar pumpkin seeds dried and stored, buttercup squash, butternut squash and I'll have sugar pumpkin seeds later this week when I process this single little sugar pumpkin that came from a volunteer vine that came up in my juniper bushes out front of the house.

I'm ready for spring.

Our Border Collie/Jack Russell Terrier girl is lying on the floor at my feet and she is dreaming about digging a hole probably chasing a vole in her dreams. Her front legs are making digging motions and then her hind legs kick like she is moving out dirt. Too funny.

Oh heck, spring is no where in sight! I dread having whole days below freezing. I need to get busy making my solar water heaters. Hope they work!:gig

Hope you plan to post a thread about this. I'd like to see your progress. I've been wondering if solar was applicable where we are given the % of cloudy days we have in the winter and the below 0 temps that can happen.

Well i can do that. I plan to use manure power for back up. The base will contain fresh manure so it will compost and produce heat. There will be an open area for the chickens to drink, and then the top part will be enclosed in glass with maybe a couple small mirrors on the north side facing in.
