The Old Folks Home

This is amazing. I have the same duck dish I think it is for concrete but it is their summer dish. I'm surprised you don't have more ice formed with all the duck splashing.

Figured out a bunch of stuff to buy on Joann fabrics for their Wednesday sale. Last night before I went to bed the cart emptied without warning so I had to find it all and enter it again. I got up at 11, the sale starts at midnight, to find my laptop had shut off. Turned it back on, thankfully the cart was still saved. Then laptop died and won't turn back on. Pretty sure god does not want me to make more pillowcases.

:highfive: The container came from Menards and is for mixing concrete. It holds up really well and the price was great!
Our temps are not as severe as yours, of course, so ice is easier to control here.
They only got a bath on "nicer" days...sunny, less cold...when I was around. I keep that brick pad around the spigot cleaned off and the sun warms the brick a bit. I would scoop out the water to dump away from the brick pad when they were done. The container was then rinsed and stored inside. I no longer have the Muscovies. I enjoyed them but didn't like having to keep them with my chickens. I would consider them if I ever had to live where I couldn't have my chickens.

We use those for kitty litter boxes for the cats. They are nice and roomy but the males still manage to miss it every now and then.:hmm It must be a universal talent in males of every species, :gig

18 degrees this morning so winter is officially here even though the calendar says it isn't. Since we are invited to the neighbor's tomorrow for turkey and DH isn't really a big fan of it I promised him a non turkey holiday meal today. The prime rib will go into the crock pot around 11 and this morning I'll make pumpkin pies. The rest of the meal is simple. Roast new potatoes from our garden along with greenbeans and sourdough dinner rolls. Iced tea for the beverage.

So most of my day will be in the kitchen, at least most of the morning. But I am grateful for being able to do it. It's been a good year here. We are enjoying moderate good health for our ages, we still have our faculties, most of our right minds, LOL. We can still take care of ourselves and the farm and have one another along with our pets. Life is good and for all this I am truly grateful.

I know the next few days are going to be busy for all so I want to wish all my friends here at Back Yard Chickens a safe, Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving. Eat a lot, laugh a lot and love those close to your hearts a lot.

Thanks Cap. The first one I posted wouldn't do what i wanted it to do, namely open so I found the Turkey one. There are several variations that made me laugh my head off but would get me a reprimand if I posted them.

Darn, I wish we could get the Amin to just turn their heads for a moment......

I'm off to bake pies. Have a good Wednesday everyone and to all those doing early cooking, don't work too hard.

I just ran down to the mail box to get the mail and the bantam roosters were just raising h-e-double toothpicks. Nothing unusual about that but they were all clustered in one corner with the hens under the woven willow sun shade and they were all staring towards the same area. I walked up to see what was up thinking maybe a 'coon was in the blackberry arbor and about half way there a hawk swooped down and skimmed the ground heading for the pond. Evidently he was sitting on one of the big posts that the pipe line people have set in our pasture to tell everybody that there is a pipe line there.

DH had said he was watching two hawks working the woods to the east of the house so maybe this was one of them.

No doubt about it. They are a pain in the hind end at times but roosters are worth their weight in scratch grains when they do their job.
